BTS announce break to grow and pursue solo projects
If you're a BTS fan, then gear up, this piece of information might shock you! Globally recognised and loved K-Pop band Bangtan Boys on Tuesday announced that the group are going on a 'hiatus' to focus on their individual careers with a line-up of solo projects for the K-Pop superstars.
This announcement came during BTS' Festa dinner, which is part of an annual celebration of their founding. The group detailed their tentative plans for solo projects and explained to fans that they 'need the time to take an extended break.'
However, just after the BTS Festa was shared and news broke, HYBE released an official statement and said that this does not mean the group will be on hiatus as they are planning to work on projects both as a group and individually.
"BTS are not taking a hiatus. Members will be focusing more on solo projects at this time," it said.
The group consisting of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, has marked their ninth anniversary as a band.
In the one-hour Festa video, the members look back on their successful journey together before discussing plans for their solo projects.
RM said while they've accomplished tremendous feats as a band, "the members still need to develop and mature as individual people and artists."
As per Variety, the band went on to say that the decision was not an easy one to make and expressed their sadness for potentially disappointing their 'BTS Army.'
"We can't help but think of our fans no matter what, we want to be the kind of artists that are remembered by our fans. I think now we're starting to think about what kind of artists we each want to be remembered as," Jimin said. In an attempt to soften the conversation, Suga optimistically went on to say, "It's not like we're disbanding!"
According to the group members, J-Hope and Suga's solo release plans are underway, both of whom have released their solo mixtapes in previous years. Jungkook also shared that he will be releasing a solo album.
Although the group has not revealed a solo release schedule yet, J-Hope's confirmation of the new project ties into his upcoming performance as the first Korean artist to appear on Lollapalooza's main stage, or particularly any major American music festival.

WhatsApp finally starts rolling out Android-to-iOS chat transfers
The process to transfer WhatsApp chats from Android to iPhone is not as straightforward. Users will need to download the “Move to iOS” app on their Android smartphone.
HIGHLIGHTS
*WhatsApp chat transfer from Android to iOS is currently available under beta
*There are multiple steps involved to successfully transfer chats from Android to iOS.
*Before transferring chats from Android to iOS, you need to ensure that the iPhone is running iOS 15.5.
WhatsApp chat transfer from Android to iOS is finally live. The messaging app has finally made the feature available as part of its beta program. WhatsApp beta users will be able to try out the feature before it is rolled out widely. Although the feature has been announced today, it will take about a week’s time to be available for all users.
The process to transfer WhatsApp chats from Android to iPhone is not as straightforward. Users will need to download the “Move to iOS” app on their Android smartphone. They will also need to ensure that their iPhone and Android smartphones meet the minimum software requirements.
Before transferring chats from Android to iOS, you need to ensure that the iPhone is running iOS 15.5. Your Android smartphone needs to run Android 5.0 at least and have the Move to iOS app installed.
WhatsApp on iPhone also needs to be updated to 2.22.10.70 or above. On Android, WhatsApp needs to be updated to 2.22.7.74 or later. Both devices must be connected to the same WiFi network and connected to a power source for successful WhatsApp chat transfer.
Now that all the requirements are in place, here is how you can transfer WhatsApp chats from Android to iPhone:
-Open the Move to iOS app on your Android smartphone and follow the on-screen prompts.
-A code will be displayed on your iPhone. When prompted, enter the code on your Android device.
-Tap Continue and follow the on-screen messages.
-Select WhatsApp on the Transfer Data screen.
-Next, tap “Start” on your Android device, and wait for WhatsApp to prepare the data for export. You will be signed out from your Android smartphone once the data is prepared.
-Tap Next to return to the Move to iOS app.
-Tap Continue to transfer the data from your Android phone to your iPhone and wait for Move to iOS to confirm the transfer is complete.
-Install the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store.
-Open WhatsApp and log in using the same phone number used on your Android smartphone.
-Tap Start when prompted, and allow the process to complete.
-Finish the activation setup of your new device and you will see your WhatsApp chats on your iPhone.

Beware! Your WhatsApp account can be hacked easily; here’s how this cybcercrime works
WhatsApp scam: Hackers can gain control of users' WhatsApp accounts and photo gallery and more through a simple phone call.
Beware! Hackers can hijack your WhatsApp account and get access to personal messages and contact list too. Hackers reportedly use mobile phone carriers’ automated service to forward calls to a different phone number, and WhatsApp’s option to send a one-time password (OTP) verification code via voice call to get access to your personal details. Security researchers at CloudSEk have detected a new scam that enables hackers to gain control of WhatsApp users’ accounts via a simple phone call. Hackers call targets and ask them to call on numbers starting with ’67’ or ‘405’. Once the call is made, the users are logged out of their WhatsApp accounts as hackers gain complete control of their accounts within seconds.
How does the WhatsApp hack work
As reported by CloudSEK, the hackers send a number that resembles service requests for various telecom operators for ‘call forwarding’ when their number is busy or engaged. Once the call is sent, hackers forward victims’ calls to their number. In the mean time, the hackers start the WhatsApp registration process and choose “the option to send OTP via a phone call” and while the user is busy, the OTP is sent to the attacker’s phone. Hackers convince users to make a call to the number **67*<10 digit number> or *405*<10 digit number>
The security researcher further shared that this trick can also be used to hack anyone’s WhatsApp account if a hacker has physical access to their phone and has permissions to make calls. “Every country and service provider has a similar service request number, so this trick works globally,” he added.
How to protect yourself from WhatsApp scam
The best and the easiest way to protect yourself from a WatsApp hacker is by not responding to calls from unknown numbers or making calls to unknown numbers. Also ensure that the numbers are not spammed. And most of all, make sure you do not leve your phone lying around where others can pick up.

Facebook and Instagram Plan on Integrating NFT Marketplace Into Social Media Platforms: Report
Facebook and Instagram are reportedly planning on integrating a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace into their social media platforms.
According to a report from The Financial Times, Meta, the owner behind the two tech giants, seeks to join a myriad of other companies riding the wave of NFT adoption.
FT says that teams at Facebook and Instagram are preparing features to let users mint their own NFTs and display them as profile photos.
Two of FT’s sources also said that Meta is preparing a complete NFT marketplace, though the details on the project are limited at time of writing.
Meta’s embrace of the sector comes shortly after fellow social media giant Twitter started allowing its iOS users to display NFTs in their profile photos.
Facebook made its first major hint about an entrance to the NFT market in August when Facebook Financial head David Marcus said the company was “definitely thinking” about it.
“Thinking about the metaverse as a fully digital environment is actually super helpful when you design products that need to be future-proof. When I look at what’s going to be needed in the metaverse, it’s really seamless movement of value, and for that, we need a new infrastructure, interoperability, because you’ll want to have multiple wallets able to participate in a metaverse.
And I think having programmable money and having smart contracts on top of a purposefully built blockchain is going to be transformational for the metaverse. Because if you’re a creator, if you’re creating an NFT, you may want to rent your NFT or sell your NFT, you’ll have to store your NFT. And you can think of all kinds of new business models around this that are not possible with the current payments infrastructure and without smart contracts.”
Meta has not made any public comments on the new push for NFT adoption, according to FT.

YouTube’s CEO says the company will explore NFT features for video creators
Wojcicki told creators her company was looking to web3, an umbrella term for internet models built around crypto, as a “source for inspiration.”
YouTube is exploring adding nonfungible token features for its video creators, Chief Executive Officer Susan Wojcicki wrote to the site’s broadcasters on Tuesday.
Although Wojcicki didn’t say exactly what her team is planning, or when, it marks the first time Alphabet Inc.’s Google, YouTube’s owner, is becoming involved with the cryptocurrency collectibles. Several of YouTube’s rivals have already jumped on the trend. Twitter Inc. began letting users post NFTs as profile photos and Instagram is reportedly working on a similar offering, according to the Financial Times.
NFTs are digital assets that represent ownership of digital assets, like art, that people can buy or sell. YouTube, home to the largest creator economy, has spent several years building ways for its video stars to earn money beyond advertising, adding tools like fan payments and e-commerce. Wojcicki told creators her company was looking to web3, an umbrella term for internet models built around crypto, as a “source for inspiration.”
“We’re always focused on expanding the YouTube ecosystem to help creators capitalize on emerging technologies, including things like NFTs, while continuing to strengthen and enhance the experiences creators and fans have on YouTube,” she wrote in her annual letter to creators this week. A YouTube spokeswoman declined to share more about the site’s NFT plans.
Several YouTube creators have built active, lucrative careers posting videos about crypto and related tech. The site, like other social media, has also been plagued by scams promising crypto riches.
Web3 backers often hold up NFTs and other crypto-fueled projects as better alternatives for creators to make money than ad platforms like YouTube and Instagram, which control distribution of their content and how they’re paid. But the market is still nascent and volatile. In the past week, the main cryptocurrency used for purchasing and trading NFTs has plunged in value.
In her letter, Wojcicki also mentioned YouTube’s priorities on gaming, shopping, music and Shorts, its TikTok copycat feature. Shorts, the CEO wrote, has claimed over 5 trillion video views since its debut in late 2020.

WhatsApp introduces THIS 'Exciting' new photo feature: All you need to know
According to the WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp beta for Desktop 2.2201.2.0 will offer a new colour to the instant messaging app's Windows and macOS versions.
Instant messaging app owned by Meta WhatsApp is introducing a new sketching tool for the Android app, as well as new and redesigned chat bubbles for the desktop app. This comes as WhatsApp is said to be working on message replies that will allow users to reply to messages with only an emoji. The sketching tool, according to WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo, would allow users to draw on images and videos and will be an extension of the pencil tool that users now have on the app.
According to the report, WhatsApp will be adding new drawing capabilities to the Android app. A future version will provide two new pencils for drawing on photos and videos. WhatsApp now features a single pencil tool that allows users to doodle or scribble on photographs, but with the new functionality, users will have two pencil options: one thinner and one thicker. According to the article, the messaging app is also working on a blur image feature, which could be included in a future release. WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.22.3.5 has the new features.
According to the WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp beta for Desktop 2.2201.2.0 will offer a new colour to the instant messaging app's Windows and macOS versions. The new colours will be evident in the dark theme, with the chat bubbles seeming greener than before.
This year, WhatsApp is apparently attempting to add new capabilities. Message reactions, a Community feature, the option to see the sender's profile photo in the notification (iOS), and other features are among them. WhatsApp is also said to be working on a new feature that will allow users to listen to voice notes in the background.
Rediroff.com, a WhatsApp hoax, has just surfaced. The scam has been going around for a while on the Meta-owned instant messaging service. According to reports, scammers are utilising the WhatsApp scam to steal users' personal and financial information, such as bank and card numbers. The spam link is also capable of infecting Windows PCs, as well as iOS and Android cellphones.

UK reports another record daily COVID cases
UK reported 88,376 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, a second consecutive record daily tally.
The British government has reported 88,376 new coronavirus cases, a second consecutive record daily tally, as the Omicron coronavirus variant fuels a worrying surge in infections across the country.
France said on Thursday it will tighten restrictions on travellers arriving from the UK.
The move comes after South Korea announced it will reinstate stricter social distancing rules on January 2, six weeks after easing them, as the number of new infections and serious cases spirals.
Omicron has so far been found in at least 77 countries, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with many reimposing travel restrictions to stem the spread.

Cryptocurrency payment starts on WhatsApp. Meta allows some users to send, receive money through Novi wallet
Novi, the cryptocurrency wallet of Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), has started allowing some users in the US to send and receive money through its messaging app WhatsApp.
Novi, the cryptocurrency wallet of Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), has started allowing some users in the US to send and receive money through its messaging app WhatsApp. The new feature on Novi wallet is a pilot program currently open to a limited number of people.
“There’s a new way to try the @Novi digital wallet. Starting today, a limited number of people in the US will be able to send and receive money using Novi on @WhatsApp, making sending money to family and friends as easy as sending a message,” Novi head Stephane Kasriel tweeted.
In a series of tweets, Kasriel said Novi enables users to send money to loved ones securely, instantly and for free. He also said that using Novi will not change the privacy of WhatsApp personal messages and calls, which are end-to-end encrypted.
“Since we introduced the Novi pilot just six weeks ago, we’ve been able to test and learn which features and functionality are most important to people, and focus our efforts on making those even better. We often hear that people use WhatsApp to coordinate sending money to loved ones, and Novi enables people to do that securely, instantly and with no fees. Payments will appear directly in people’s chat,” Kasriel tweeted.
“We’re still very early in the Novi pilot journey, so we made the decision to test this new entry point in one country to start and will look to extend it once we’ve heard from people what they think of this new experience. Using Novi doesn’t change the privacy of WhatsApp personal messages and calls, which are always end-to-end encrypted,” he added.
How Novi moves money
According to the details available on Novi’s official website, when users add money to their Novi account, it gets converted to USDP (Pax Dollar), which is a stable digital currency issued by Paxos Trust Company.
USDP has been designed to have a stable value relative to the US dollar. “So on Novi, 1 USDP is equal to 1 US dollar,” the website says.
Users can securely keep a balance in their Novi account or transfer it to their bank account.
Paxos Trust Company is a regulated financial institution.
As per reports, Meta Platforms has been working on the wallet app for several months. Due to regulatory concerns, it has scaled back its global plans to roll out a digital currency called Diem.

Meta (Formerly Facebook) Relaxes Policy on Cryptocurrency Ads to Open Doors to More Advertisers
Meta has today announced an update to its ad policies around cryptocurrencies.
Meta, formerly Facebook, has expanded its terms and conditions for running crypto adverts on Facebook, providing companies and financial entities more headroom to market their digital asset products. The social media giant said it was implementing this expansion because the "cryptocurrency landscape has continued to mature and stabilise in recent years and has seen more government regulations that are setting clearer rules for their industry." Meta's revised eligibility criteria sees the number of regulatory licenses the platform accepts go up from 3 to 27, which will be good news for the crypto industry. Until now, advertisers could submit an application to run ads and include information such as any licenses they obtained, whether they are traded on a public stock exchange, and other relevant public backgrounds on their business.
After the new update, crypto exchanges and wallets will qualify to advertise on the platform if they possess just 1 of a potential 27 regulatory licenses. The updated list of eligible licenses is publicly available here.
"Going forward, we will be moving away from using a variety of signals to confirm eligibility and instead requiring one of these 27 licenses," says Facebook on a blog post announcing the big expansion in licenses. Advertisers who were previously approved will not be impacted by this change and the list of products and services that require pre-approval also won't change, Meta added
On its policy page, Meta now hosts details on which types of cryptocurrency products are allowed and are not allowed. For example, cryptocurrency exchanges and hardware and software for crypto mining are not allowed while blockchain-based products and services such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and tax services for cryptocurrencies are allowed. Meta on its blog post also acknowledged that there are currently no set and hard rules in the cryptocurrency space.
The change in ad rules pertaining to crypto is happening just as Meta's marquee crypto-related effort has been downsized. After unveiling plans to create a slew of new digital coins a few years ago, Facebook and its partners have had to dramatically trim their plans following an onslaught of regulatory and congressional scrutiny. Earlier this year, the company launched a pilot program for sending remittances using a rival, existing coin — a far cry from its initial ambitious plan. The project's creator, David Marcus, earlier this week announced that he is leaving the company.

Crypto Ban Unlikely in India, but Government to Discourage Trade: See Details of Plan
The cryptocurrency market has been blooming silently in India over the past several months and after repeated concerns raised by the Reserve Bank of India, the Centre has taken note of the issue. The government, in the recent days, has indicated that it plans to regulate cryptocurrencies to prevent investors from holding them without any restriction. However, it does not want to ban crypto coins entirely, as it had planned earlier. This is because the government wants to evolve as the world changes everyday, Prime Minister Narendra clearly said during a virtual keynote address at the Sydney Dialogue a day back.
According to a report by Reuters, the Narendra Modi government is likely to allow only those cryptocurrencies that have been pre-approved by the authorities to be listed and traded on exchanges. The process is cumbersome but intentional, sources familiar with the developments have revealed to the news agency.
“Only when a coin has been approved by the government can it be traded, else holding or trading it in may attract a penalty," said one source, who did not want to be named.
On Thursday, November 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said cryptocurrencies must not fall into the “wrong hands and spoil our youth", urging all democratic nations to come together and ensure things like these do not happen. The government and the RBI have recently hinted about floating a strong regulatory control on cryptocurrency to avoid money laundering and terror financing, rather than banning it entirely.
According to the Reuters report, the government aims to introduce and pass a cryptocurrency law in the parliamentary session that begins this month. Such a pre-verification approach would create obstacles for thousands of peer-to-peer currencies that thrive on being outside the ambit of regulatory scrutiny, it said.
The Centre, had earlier in the year, indicated that it would consider to criminalise possession, issuance, mining, trading and transference of crypto assets and bring a law regarding the same.
However, the stance has since changed, with the crypto ecosystem booming. But this is only a sight change, two sources told Reuters. Major capital cains as well as other taxes are likely to be levied on crypto assets to discourage trading of the digital tokens. According to a senior government source, investors “will have to pay over 40 per cent on any crypto gains so far". Additional goods and services sales taxes (GST), and securities transaction taxes, could be levied on top of any capital gains taxes, said the source, who did not want to be named.
According to repots, the upcoming legislation is set to address the taxation part on cryptocurrencies, which is likely to be at 1 per cent. The platforms trading with cryptocurrency may be classified as e-commerce platforms. The proposed Bill on cryptocurrency is expected to be tabled during the Winter session of the Parliament.
Modi’s first comment on cryptocurrency comes against a backdrop of a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister on the regulation of digital tokens last week. Cryptocurrencies are still not taxed in India, but have not been recognised as an official currency.
However, according to a report by the Economic Times, cryptocurrencies may be allowed in India as an asset class, rather than being banned. This means that it won’t be recognised as a valid currency to settle transactions, but can be held as an asset like gold, share or bond.

Spotify Finally Brings Real-Time Lyrics To All Users Worldwide: How To Use New Feature
Music streaming major Spotify has finally brought real-time lyrics to all users worldwide, across its supported platforms. The feature, first spotted by TechCrunch, has started rolling out to all users worldwide starting today. Spotify becomes one of the last apps to roll out a similar feature for users. All kinds of users - free or premium on mobile, desktop, consoles, and select smart TVs will be able to take advantage of this new feature.
The real-time lyrics feature has been requested for years on the Spotify Community. The Swedish company has now listened to these users and the feature has already started rolling out for several users. You will be able to access lyrics on mobile by swiping up from the Now Playing screen. Users will also get to select the lyrics that they want to share on social media or other third-party apps.
While the much-awaited feature finally gives Spotify a much-awaited functionality, there are conflicting reports about the availability. A report in XDA Developers said that some songs don’t support lyrics so far. The app displays tags on songs that indicate whether the feature is supported or not.
Spotify has been offering lyrics in India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia since last year, after initially testing the feature in 2019. This has expanded to cover all markets where Spotify is available. Before this, Spotify had a Behind the Lyrics feature that included fun facts about artists and certain lyrics.
Last week, Spotify enabled a feature that allows users to block others. Spotify says the addition of a direct blocking function is part of its currently underway mission to provide users with the best possible experience while also fostering a secure environment to stream music and podcasts.

You Can Now Customise Your Facebook News Feed: Here's How And What's In Store For Users, Businesses
Facebook is testing several new controls designed to give users and business owners the option to customise their Facebook News Feed. Meta, the parent comopany says that with the new changes, people can increase or reduce the amount of content they see from friends, family, groups, and Pages on Facebook. The company announced the changes on Thursday, detailing how it is giving more control to the people and businesses over their News Feed.
“We’re testing new ways to make it easier to find and use News Feed controls to adjust people’s ranking preferences and customize their News Feed. As part of this, people can now increase or reduce the amount of content they see from the friends, family, Groups and Pages they’re connected to and the topics they care about in their News Feed Preferences," Facebook said in a blog post. Facebook will make controls like Favorites, Snooze, Unfollow and Reconnect easily available for users to access. This test is only available to a small percentage of people and will be expanded in the coming weeks.
For businesses, Facebook is expanding the Topic Exclusion controls for News Feed test to a limited number of advertisers that run ads in English. This allows an advertiser to select a topic to help define how we’ll show the ad on Facebook. Advertisers can select three topics - News and Politics, Social Issues, and Crime & Tragedy. When an advertiser selects one or more topics, their ad will not be delivered to people recently engaging with those topics in their News Feed.
Meta said that those who excluded News and Political categories were able to avoid News and Political adjacency 94% of the time. Those who excluded Tragedy and Conflict categories were able to avoid Tragedy and Conflict adjacency 99% of the time, and those who excluded Debated Social Issues categories were able to avoid Debated Social Issues adjacency 95% of the time.
Facebook (now Meta) sees this “as a bridge between what we can offer today and where we hope to go — content-based controls." It said that it will soon begin exploring and testing a new content-based suitability control that will aim to address concerns advertisers have of their ads appearing in Facebook and Instagram feeds next to certain topics based on their brand suitability preferences.

WhatsApp Payments: Here’s how to send and receive money via UPI
Users of WhatsApp can now send money to people in their contact list. You should keep in mind, though, that you can only send and receive money after you've linked your bank account to WhatsApp Pay.
New Delhi: WhatsApp, one of the most extensively used communication apps, allows users to interact, chat, and share media files in addition to allowing them to interact, chat, and share media files (photos, videos, audios, GIFs, etc.). It does, however, enable users to send and receive money. This is done through UPI-based WhatsApp payments (Unified Payment Interface). Users of WhatsApp can now send money to people in their contact list. You should keep in mind, though, that you can only send and receive money after you've linked your bank account to WhatsApp Pay.
Tap Done once UPI setup is complete.
Create a PIN (Personal Identification Number) for UPI (Unified Payment Interface) and enter it under SETUP UPI PIN, then tap Submit.
Pre-filling the OTP (One-Time Password) is possible. If this is not the case, an SMS with the OTP may be sent to your phone. Under ENTER OTP, type the OTP. Tap Resend OTP to send another OTP to your phone.
Set up UPI PIN by tapping Done.
Enter your debit card number's last six digits as well as the expiration date.
To confirm your debit card information, tap Continue.
Open the chat window with the person to whom you want to give money, then touch Attach, then Payment.

WhatsApp could integrate Novi digital wallet to enable global payment transfers
WhatsApp update: The Novi service is only available in the US and Guatemala, which means that the messaging service is working on adding payments for US users too.
WhatsApp could launch a peer-to-peer payment system in other countries as well, according to a new report. A code found in the latest WhatsApp 2.21.23.10 beta version hints at Novi integration, which will enable global payment transfers, according to XDA Developers.
The Novi service is only available in the US and Guatemala, which means that the messaging service is working on adding payments for US users too. It is worth noting that WhatsApp is offering a payment system in only India and Brazil. In India, it is based on Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which allows for direct bank transfers.
The new finding backs the WABetaInfo report that showed the integration of Novi service and how it might look like. Those who are unaware Novi is the digital wallet owned by Meta, which was previously known as Facebook.
Novi allows anyone to send and receive money at no extra cost across borders by using the Pax Dollar, which is a digital coin backed by the US dollar. The integration of this service would let WhatsApp users send or receive money globally through the Novi digital wallet.
It is being reported that users will be required to upload their documents for verification before trying the new money transfer experience. One might also be asked to take a video selfie for identity verification.
It seems the company is has started unifying its payment service for its social media apps. David Marcus, Head of FinTech unit at Meta recently revealed that the parent company is unifying its payments and financial services unit and products under the Novi brand.
“Some of these products are branded Facebook Pay, some are unbranded, and our wallet operates under the Novi brand. So over time, we will unify all existing and future payments and financial services experiences under the Novi brand,” the executive had said.
The company is already running a small pilot of a Novi digital wallet in the US and Guatemala. But, there are chances that the social media giant might offer Novi to a large number of WhatsApp users in the near future.

Cryptocurrency updates on Nov 8: Bitcoin above $65,000; Shiba Inu plunges
Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency, rose over 5 percent on Monday to $65,000, for the first time since October 20, having risen nearly 8 percent in the last seven days. It hit a record high of $67,000 on October 20.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin's dominance in the market is decreasing. From 46 percent last month to 43 percent on Monday. As its dominance drops, experts believe the market's narrative is shifting to altcoins. As the week begins, tokens like Solana continue to grab the attention of traders.
Solana has surged to the number 4 position on the crypto table. Meaning, it is now the fourth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap. The coin has left behind the likes of Tether, Cardano, and Ripple XRP. While it has slipped 3 percent in the last 24 hours, it has surged over 20 percent in the past seven days.

WhatsApp plans to give more control to Group admins in future, here’s how
Facebook-owned WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature called Communities. As reported by WaBetaInfo, the community will be a new place where group admins have more control over groups on WhatsApp, mainly to group other groups easily. The feature was spotted by the online platform in the latest beta version for WhatsApp, version 2.21.21.6.
WhatsApp Community is likely to be a new group chat function which will offer ‘private space’ between people via end-to-end encryption. Admins will be able to send messages in this group chat. They will also be able to group some groups related to the community. For example, a degree course can be considered a community, and all its teaching classes are groups included in this community.
As mentioned above, the upcoming feature will offer more control and power to the admins over WhatsApp groups. Group admins will be able to invite people to join the community via a “Community Invite Link”. The link can be shared privately or publicly.
If a user joins a community, he/she will not get automatic access to all groups of the community. As per the report, further options will be discovered in the future.
The community feature is under development on WhatsApp beta for Android and WhatsApp beta for iOS. There is no release timeline of the feature yet.
Meanwhile, the instant messaging app has started rolling out a multi-device feature It will allow users to link their WhatsApp primary account running on Android/iOS phone to link with a secondary device. Also, one can send/receive messages on the secondary device without primary devicebeing connected to the internet.

Shiba Inu Coin inches back up after whale moved 40 trillion tokens, Ethereum remains stable as Bitcoin weakens
Three cryptocurrencies, three different market trends. Just in time for the weekend, we summarize what has happened on the crypto market over the last five days, with a particular focus on Bitcoin, Ethereum and the Shiba Inu Coin.
Another turbulent week on the crypto market is slowly coming to an end. On Monday, crypto enthusiasts woke up to the unfortunate news that the sketchy Squid Game cryptocurrency lost practically all of its value after its deceitful creators figuratively pulled the rug and sold all their tokens. Besides this latest crypto scam, there have been other exciting developments on the crypto market, which after a few record breaking weeks seemed to settle down a bit.
The Shiba Inu Coin for example initially posted big losses after a whale, a nickname for a person with a significant stake in one cryptocurrency, reportedly decided to move 40 trillion of his or her Shiba Inu tokens between different wallets. The cryptocurrency based on the Japanese dog breed with the same name consequently lost 15% of its value on Thursday alone. But the Shiba Inu Coin has already recovered from these losses and was able to jump back up by 18% in the past 24 hours. Shiba Inu Coin is currently priced at US$.000062 per token.
As we previously reported, the second biggest cryptocurrency in the world Ethereum managed to set a new all-time high on Wednesday, but investors have since turned more cautious. The price of Ethereum remained mostly flat, one ether is currently priced at US$4,500, which is 3.5% less than the record high of US$4,655. The Bitcoin on the other hand had an even weaker five days after a promising start to the week. One bitcoin is currently worth around US$61,200, down 9 percent from its all-time high of US$66,930 that was reached about two weeks ago.

The publication even shared a screenshot where it showcased that a message from three months ago was still eligible to get deleted for both people.
WABetaInfo also reports separately that WhatsApp Beta for iOS (v2.21.220.15) is getting a new video playback interface to allow users to pause, play the video in fullscreen, or close the picture-in-picture window.
Recently, WhatsApp also started rolling out end-to-end encrypted chat backups for iOS and Android users globally. With the new update, if a user chooses to back up his chat history with end-to-end encryption, it will be accessible only to him, and no one will be able to unlock the backup. Neither WhatsApp nor the backup service provider will be able to access their end-to-end encryption backup.

Crypto Exchange KuCoin ‘Merges’ Into Metaverse, Opens Office in Virtual Skyscraper ‘Bloktopia’
KuCoin, a Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange, has decided to explore the budding Metaverse technology as a first from that sector. The platform has “merged” reality with virtual reality (VR) to introduce its new “metaverse office” in a stunning virtual reality-based building called “Bloktopia". This office is located on the 21st storey of a virtual skyscraper. In this metaverse office, people will be able to virtually communicate with each other and interact with furnishings and other decorations. The announcement comes just days after Facebook took a pro-metaverse step and rebranded the company as Meta.
Powered by augmented reality (AR), the metaverse can be described as the future of the Internet that could support a functional virtual universe. Crypto-coins are likely to be the currency of this digital world.
KuCoin announced its entry into the metaverse on Twitter, giving a sneak-peak into the office interiors in its virtual office.
“Visitors can engage in basic or advanced learning from some of the world-leading minds in the crypto industry — earn revenue, play games with friends, build networks, and much more. Think of Bloktopia as a shopping mall, where instead of just retail, each store has a different project, exchange, influencer, or crypto brand offering an immersive customer experience,” the official statement from KuCoin explained.
In order to fine-tune its metaverse adoption, KuCoin has listed “BLOK” as the native token of Bloktopia.
In recent days, the discussions around the metaverse seem to have picked up pace especially after Meta, formerly Facebook, entered the space.
Speaking about the goals of Meta, its Vice President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg recently said that the company is building itself for the metaverse — which will be part of the next generation of the Internet, Web 3.0.
Like Meta, more tech giants are getting into the groove of the metaverse. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, for instance, recently spoke in favour of the concept.
Bloomberg Intelligence reportedly expects the market opportunity for the metaverse to reach $800 billion (roughly Rs. 59,58,719 crore) by 2024.

Paytm may consider Bitcoin offerings if India legalizes cryptocurrency
Paytm, India’s digital payments pioneer, would consider Bitcoin offerings if the nation’s authorities removed regulatory uncertainty surrounding the adoption of crypto currencies.
The rules around these assets remain in a “grey area," Chief Financial Officer Madhur Deora said in an interview to Bloomberg TV’s Haslinda Amin and Rishaad Salamat Thursday.
“Bitcoin is still in a regulatory grey area if not a regulatory ban in India," Deora said. “At the moment Paytm does not do Bitcoin. If it was ever to become fully legal in the country then clearly there could be offerings we could launch."
India’s central bank had effectively banned cryptocurrency trading until the courts lifted the prohibitions in March 2020. Since then, the government has considered the adoption of crypto legislation, but the Reserve Bank of India remains highly critical and continues to advocate for its ban.
Deora’s comments come as Paytm prepares for public subscriptions to its 183 billion-rupee ($2.5 billion) initial public offering, after selling almost half to anchor investors. The listing is expected mid-November.

Bitcoin, ether, Shiba Inu fall while Solana, Cardano surge. Check cryptocurrency prices today
Bitcoin prices today declined to trade below $63,000 mark. The world's largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization was down over 1% to $62,469.5. The most popular digital token is up 116% this year (year-to-date) so far after hitting a record high of near $67,000 in October.
Ether, the coin linked to ethereum blockchain and the second largest crypto, also plunged 1% to $4,555, as per CoinDesk, whereas dogecoin fell 1% to $0.26. Other digital tokens like XRP, Solana, Cardano, Uniswap, Litecoin, Polkadot were trading with gains over the last 24 hours. Shiba Inu, that has been on a record rally since the past few sessions, declined over 11% to $0.000059.
Ether, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency, hit an all-time high on Wednesday, catching up with bitcoin's rally and riding on news of wider blockchain adoption.
The steady stream of news on cryptocurrency adoption by banks, growth of nonfungible tokens on virtual gaming platforms, launch of bitcoin futures-based U.S. ETFs and a need among investors for diversification in an uncertain interest rate environment have pushed several blockchain tokens, including bitcoin and ether, higher since October.
Bitcoin has more than quadrupled in the past year and reached a record near $67,000 last month amid optimism around the debut of Bitcoin futures-backed exchange-traded funds in the US, and waning concerns about issues like China’s crackdown on the digital-asset space.
Meanwhile, Australia's largest bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, said on Wednesday it will become the country's first to offer retail clients crypto services.
According to digital assets researcher CryptoCompare, assets under management (AUM) in digital investment products rose 45.5% in October to a record high of $74.7 billion. The total AUM for bitcoin-based products grew 52.2% to $55.2 billion, while ethereum-based funds AUM increased 30% to $15.9 billion, record highs for both categories.

Elon Musk is ROFL as whistleblower Snowden calls Shiba Inu "clone of dog money"
Edward Snowden’s tweet warning against Shiba Inu and his reply to a journalist who asked him what exactly he meant caught Elon Musk’s attention.
US whistle-blower Edward Snowden has warned people against investing in cryptocurrency Shiba Inu, calling it a “clone of dog money”. The former NSA (National Security Agency) contractor’s concerns seem to have received backing from billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk who too recently snubbed the popular meme cryptocurrency.
“I say this with love: if you got talked into exchanging your hard-earned savings for some new dog money because a meme said you'd get rich, please carefully consider your odds of outsmarting a market that sold to you its stake in *not even dog money but a CLONE of dog money*,” Snowden tweeted on Sunday.
Snowden’s tweet and his reply to a journalist who asked him what exactly he meant caught Musk’s attention.
“Dog money?” asked Reuters journalist Joel Schectman. Giving a sarcastic response, Snowden replied, “If you don't know what I’m talking about, you're honestly better off not knowing.”
Elon Musk, who came across screenshots of the Twitter exchange between Snowden and the journalist, responded with a single emotion that represents “ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing)”.
Shiba Inu, the self-proclaimed "dogecoin killer", which was created in August 2020 by someone who uses the name Ryoshi, is modelled after Dogecoin.
Elon Musk, known for his cryptocurrency endorsements, last week reiterated his holdings which are limited to Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dogecoin, slyly revealing that he does not own Shiba Inu.
“Out of curiosity, I acquired some ASCII hash strings called ‘Bitcoin, Ethereum & Doge’. That’s it,” the Tesla and SpaceX chief tweeted in response to users asking him about his investment in meme tokens. “As I’ve said before, don’t bet the farm on crypto! True value is building products & providing services to your fellow human beings, not money in any form,” he added.
Shiba Inu on Monday topped the WazirX exchange in terms of volume with Tether and Bitcoin trailing behind on second and third respectively.

Facebook Changes Its Name To 'Meta' In Rebranding Exercise
San Francisco: Facebook changed its parent company name to "Meta" on Thursday as the tech giant tries to move past being a scandal-plagued social network to its virtual reality vision for the future.
The new handle comes as the company battles to fend off one of its worst crises yet and pivot to its ambitions for the "metaverse," which would blur the lines between the physical world and the digital one.
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp -- which are used by billions around the world -- will keep their names under the rebranding critics have called an effort to distract from the platform's dysfunction.
"We've learned a lot from struggling with social issues and living under closed platforms, and now it is time to take everything that we've learned and help build the next chapter," CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during an annual developers conference.
"I am proud to announce that starting today, our company is now Meta. Our mission remains the same, still about bringing people together, our apps and their brands, they're not changing," he added.
The company's critics pounced on the rebranding, with an activist group calling itself The Real Facebook Oversight Board saying the platform is harming democracy while spreading disinformation and hate.
"Their meaningless name change should not distract from the investigation, regulation and real, independent oversight needed to hold Facebook accountable," the group said in a statement.
The social media giant has been battling one of its most serious crises ever since former employee Frances Haugen leaked reams of internal studies showing executives knew of their sites' potential for harm, prompting a renewed US push for regulation.
'Metaverse'
Reports from a consortium of US news outlets have used those documents to produce a deluge of damning stories, including blaming Zuckerberg for his platform bending to state censors and highlighting how the site has stoked anger in the name of keeping users engaged.
Facebook noted in a filing that from September "it became subject to government investigations and requests" relating to the documents leaked to lawmakers and regulators.
The company told AFP it issued on Tuesday to employees a "legal hold," which is an instruction to preserve documents and communications because it faces inquiries from authorities.
A Washington Post report last month suggested that Facebook's interest in a metaverse virtual world is "part of a broader push to rehabilitate the company's reputation with policymakers and reposition Facebook to shape the regulation of next-wave internet technologies."
However Zuckerberg, in a more than one-hour streamed message that showed him exploring virtual reality worlds, said the vision is the future.
"Within the next decade, Metaverse will reach a billion people, post hundreds of billions of dollars of digital commerce, and support jobs for millions of creators and developers," he said.
The company noted during Zuckerberg's presentation "a dozen major technological breakthroughs to get to the next generation metaverse."
Facebook has just announced plans to hire 10,000 people in the European Union to build the "metaverse," with Zuckerberg emerging as a leading promoter of the concept.
The metaverse is, in fact, the stuff of science-fiction: the term was coined by Neal Stephenson in his 1992 novel "Snow Crash," in which people don virtual reality headsets to interact inside a game-like digital world.
Facebook has been hit by major crises previously, but the current view behind the curtain of the insular company has fueled a frenzy of scathing reports and scrutiny from US regulators.
"Good faith criticism helps us get better, but my view is that what we are seeing is a coordinated effort to selectively use leaked documents to paint a false picture of our company," Zuckerberg said in an earnings call on Monday.
Google rebranded itself as Alphabet in a corporate reconfiguration in 2015, but the online search and ad powerhouse remains its defining unit despite other operations such as Waymo self-driving cars and Verily life sciences.

Windows 11 tips: Top 5 keyboard shortcuts for Windows 11 power users
Keyboard shortcuts offer a handy way for users to quickly make their way around the Windows 11 operating system and access features faster. Here’s are the top five keyboard shortcuts for Windows 11 power users.
Windows 11 landed earlier this month, bringing some of the most notable improvements and upgrades to the PC operating system since its predecessor Windows 10 was launched in 2015. Now that Windows 11 is here, users can enjoy the new visual redesign of the system, themes and apps, along with all the new features and improvements under the hood. In addition to Windows features, users can also take advantage of keyboard shortcuts introduced with the new operating system.
Whether you want to quickly check your notifications, check the latest news or the weather, take a screenshot, multitask better, or open a chat in Microsoft Teams, here are some of the best shortcuts you can use after downloading the Windows 11 update. So, from Windows Key + N, Windows Key + W to Windows Key + C, check out the top 5 shortcuts.
Windows Key + N for notification panel
Windows 10 separates your notifications feed from the Action Center, which is now called the quick settings area. If you want to check your notifications, you will need to press Windows Key + N, while pressing Windows Key + A (the old Action Center shortcut) will show you the quick settings option for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and more settings.
Windows Key + W for News and Interests feed
With the News and Interests feed, Windows 11 offers users the ability to check the latest news, the weather and more without opening a browser window. Users can also perform searches using this panel. In order to bring up this panel, users need to press the Windows Key + N to check the latest news.
Windows Key + Z for Snap Layout
With Windows 11, Microsoft is finally updating its window management solution to adapt to larger screens (such as ultrawide monitors). Instead of the usual two windows snapping capability, Windows 11 allow users to snap their windows in a three-column layout. Users can access this by pressing Windows Key and Z to access the Snap layout.
Windows Key + Print Screen for taking screenshots
This one isn’t exactly new, but pressing the Windows Key and Print Screen will automatically capture the entire screen and save a copy of the image on your PC. Once the screen flashes, you will know that the screenshot has been taken, after which you can find the file saved under your Pictures folder in a subfolder called Screenshot.
Windows Key + C for Microsoft Teams chat
While Windows 10 focused on allowing users to make calls and chat using the built-in Skype app, Windows 11 favours the company’s Microsoft Teams app. The service allows anyone with a Microsoft account to quickly start a chat using the Windows + C shortcut, which can come in handy when trying to quickly start a chat directly from the desktop.

Kuwait: New travel crisis looming on horizon
Dubai: A new travel crisis is looming on the horizon in Kuwait after many names of people vaccinated were found to be different in vaccination cards than in passports and civil IDs, local media reported.
According to Al Rai newspaper, the problem appeared in particular when people travelling to London were denied boarding. They were forced to return home after authorities discovered the Latin characters in the passports names did not match the vaccination certificates.
Accordingly, the visa with which the traveller will enter the country and the PCR certificate will not be identical.
Passengers who were turned back due to errors in names expressed their frustration over their loss of large sums of money for tickets, hotel reservations, PCR test fee and wondered why does the Ministry of Health did not have an office at the airport to correct such errors.
"Why aren’t there electronic solutions by communicating (online) for correcting names instead of turning away passengers from the airport and informing them to check with the vaccination centre in Mishref to correct the names, they asked.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health stated that “there is a link between the National Vaccination Campaign and the Public Authority for Civil Information for the data of vaccinators, which appears automatically on the registration site, as soon as the civil number and serial number are entered upon registration."
The ministry added that “any data in the vaccination certificate can be modified by visiting the Kuwait Centre for COVID-19 Vaccination in Mishref.

Soon, manage your WhatsApp reactions notifications
WhatsApp is developing a feature that will give users more granular control over their Message Reactions and Message Reaction notifications.
WhatsApp has long been known to be working on a feature called Message Reactions. For those who haven’t been keeping up with WhatsApp’s flurry of upcoming features, the company’s Message Reactions feature, when rolled out, will enable users to react to messages in a way that is similar to the way netizens react to messages in Instagram’s messaging section and Facebook Messenger. Now, word is that the Facebook-based messaging app is developing a feature that will give WhatsApp users more granular control over their Message Reactions and Message Reaction notifications.
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is working on a new feature called Reaction Notifications. This feature will let users manage how reaction notifications work. The blog site said that in particular, ‘WhatsApp is working on new settings to disable reaction notifications or change their tone.’
The blog site also shared a screenshot that gives a glimpse of how WhatsApp’s interface would look when the company rolls out this feature. The screenshot indicates that the upcoming Reaction Notification feature will appear inside the Notification Settings section of the messaging app alongside the Group Notifications and Message Notifications settings. Just like Message and Group notification settings, Reaction Notifications settings will get two sets of controls. First will be the toggle button that will enable users to enable or disable notifications for Message Reactions. The second setting will enable users to pick the kind of tone that they want WhatsApp to play for Message Reactions. WhatsApp users can pick between WhatsApp’s library of shorter Alert Tones and longer Classic tones. These options are similar to what WhatsApp offers for Message Notifications and Group Notifications.
All said and done, WhatsApp’s upcoming Reaction Notifications feature is still in the developmental phase and it will be quite sometime before the feature is rolled out WhatsApp beta for Android and WhatsApp beta for iOS users for testing before a wider rollout.
Separately, WhatsApp has started rolling out end-to-end encrypted chat backups to its Android and iOS users across the globe. This feature was announced last month and it is now available to users globally. It will enable WhatsApp users to encrypt their chat backups with the same encryption technique that WhatsApp users to secure chats on its platform.

Aadhaar verification can now be done online from the comfort of your home. The process can be carried out by simply visiting the official UIDAI website and logging in with your details.
UIDAI, the organisation that looks after the Aadhaar program, says that cardholders should verify their Aadhaar every once in a while to prevent fraudsters taking advantage of your Aadhaar details. This verification process can be easily done via the Aadhaar website, or by using the mAadhaar app that can be downloaded from the app store.
Aadhaar verification at home: How to do it online
The process is extremely easy. Just ensure that you have a stable internet connection and your Aadhaar number on you at the time of doing the online verification process.
- Open the browser and visit the website https://resident.uidai.gov.in/verify.
- Here, you will have to input your 12-digit Aadhaar number in the provided box.
- Once you put in the Aadhaar number, you can click “Proceed to Verify” after finishing the Captcha code.
- Once done, your Aadhaar will be verified.
- The process can also be done via the mAadhaar app on your smartphone. Do note that this app is only available on the Google Play store for Android smartphones only. There’s no iOS and Windows version of the app.
Why to do Aadhaar verification
With so much fraud happening, it is a good practice to verify the Aadhaar number assigned to you. Basically, you can check whether your Aadhaar details are genuine or not. The UIDAI says that residents are using the verification service to verify the identity of their workers too.

Microsoft shutting down LinkedIn in China
LinkedIn senior vice-president Mohak Shroff on Thursday said the company is facing a "significantly more challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements in China."
US multinational technology firm Microsoft is shutting down its social network, LinkedIn, in China, saying having to comply with the Chinese state has become increasingly difficult.
In a blog post, LinkedIn senior vice-president Mohak Shroff on Thursday said the company is facing a "significantly more challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements in China."
"Given this, we've made the decision to sunset the current localized version of LinkedIn, which is how people in China access LinkedIn's global social media platform, later this year," Shroff said.
The comes after the company faced backlash for blocking the profiles of some journalists.
The career-networking site will instead roll out a new platform called "InJobs", a China-only portal that will "not include a social feed or the ability to share posts or articles".
"InJobs will not include a social feed or the ability to share posts or articles. We will also continue to work with Chinese businesses to help them create economic opportunity. This decision aligns with our commitment to creating economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce."
In the past year, the regulatory screws have further tightened in the country, CNN reported.
A regulatory crackdown in recent months has wiped an estimated USD 3 trillion off the market value of China's biggest firms, the report by the US television channel added.
Earlier, LinkedIn suspended new user sign-ups in China to "ensure we remain in compliance with local law". Later, the US company had declined to elaborate on which local law it was examining.
"We recognized that operating a localized version of LinkedIn in China would mean adherence to requirements of the Chinese government on internet platforms," Shroff said on Thursday. "While we strongly support freedom of expression, we took this approach in order to create value for our members in China and around the world.

iPhone 13 Pro has a BIG surprise for Nokia 3310
The Nokia 3310 has been observed to be in a much worse shape than an iPhone 13 Pro in a crazy drop test. Read to find out how the iPhone 13 Pro fared.
For years, we have seen the Nokia 3310 take the harshest of beating and emerge as the king of durable phones. However, 2021 may finally have a phone that can outdo this relic from the past. Meet the…(cue to the drumroll)… iPhone 13 Pro! Surprised, aren’t you? How can an expensive phone covered mostly with glass and other sensitive materials stand up outdo a brick quality Nokia 3310?
The answer came from a drop test video by TechRax, who had the guts to throw an iPhone 13 Pro and a Nokia 3310 from several flights of stairs. The iPhone was dropped dressed in the transparent plastic case from Apple while the Nokia 3310 was not wearing any case. While the results were expected to be otherwise, it was the iPhone that survived three drops and continued working.
iPhone 13 Pro beats Nokia 3310 in durability
The Nokia 3310 lost its composure in the first drop when all of its parts came off and the phone was found in bits and pieces. The keypad, frame, motherboard, and battery were all separated after the first impact. That wasn’t the case for the iPhone.
On its first drop, the iPhone 13 Pro had only shattered its rear glass and kept the video recording switched on (it was dropped with the camera switched on). A second drop attempt saw the rear shatter further while the edges of the display had developed cracks. The third drop saw the glass bits coming off the rear while the display glass cracked some more.
However, the phone was still working after the third drop. The camera was working normally and so was the rest of the display, registering touch inputs.
Even though the iPhone 13 Pro was wearing its case in all the three cases, it came out of the test better. Apple’s latest iteration of Ceramic Shield is pretty durable in resisting cracks against such massive drop cases. Hence, if you have a habit of dropping yor phones regularly, the iPhone 13 Pro should fare well in such conditions.
However, the situation may be different with the bigger iPhone 13 Pro Max that has a larger body and more surface. The regular iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini may suffer worse owing to their aluminium frames (the Pro models have a stainless steel body).

WhatsApp is working on five new features: Redesigned chat bubbles, and more
WhatsApp is working on various new features, that we may get to experience soon, once the company decides to roll them out for evryone
WhatsApp is working on various new features that we may get to experience soon. While many of these features are already in public beta and can be experienced by users who have signed up for WhatsApp’s beta program, others are still being developed and may be launching for all users in the near future. Here’s a quick look at five new features that WhatsApp could release in the near future.
New voice notes feature
The instant messaging service is now working on a “global voice message player,” which will enable users to listen to voice messages even after leaving the chats. As per a report by WabetaInfo, the update will pin voice messages to the top of the main app even after users play the voice message and leave that chat.
Additionally, the app will display the voice message on the top of every section or chat you visit. There will also be an option to pause and close the voice message at any time.
This feature could be useful when you receive a long voice message. “In this case, you can continue sending messages to other contacts when you are listening to the voice message,” WaBetaInfo said.
Redesigned chat bubbles
WhatsApp recently released version 2.21.200.11 update for its beta users on the iOS platform. The update allows users to view redesigned chat bubbles. The beta users will now see rounded, larger, and more colourful chat bubbles as compared to the old chat bubble. It is important to note that all of these features are currently in beta. WhatsApp may start rolling out the features for all users in the near future.
Custom privacy setting
WhatsApp is introducing a new custom privacy setting option for Android beta users. The company will add a new “My contacts except” option in the privacy settings, which will allow users set last seen for specific contacts.
The company is said to have already begun testing this feature for iOS users, which could mean that the company might release this feature for both iOS and Android devices at the same.
The feature will be beneficial when users don’t want to show some of their contacts when they were last online on WhatsApp. WaBetaInfo has reported that the new custom option will be available for categories like “Last Seen” “Profile photo” and “About.”
Currently, WhatsApp offers three privacy options under these categories. Through these privacy options, you can control who can see your last seen or profile picture or your personal info on WhatsApp.
Message reactions feature
WhatsApp is also developing a new feature that will allow you to react to messages with emojis. A similar feature is already available on Facebook Messenger and Instagram’s Direct Messaging. WhatsApp’s upcoming reaction feature will allow users to tap, and hold the message that they want to react to and then drag their fingers to the appropriate emoji.
As per screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, users will be able to view message reactions just below the texts available on the app. The reactions feature will most likely be available for both individual and group chats.
New backup feature
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature which will allow users to manage their chat backup size and exclude specific content such as documents and photos from their cloud backup.
As per a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on the dedicated ‘Manage backup size’ section to allow users manage their backup size before uploading it to the cloud. The feature could be limited to Android devices and may work with the backups being stored on Google Drive, at first.

WhatsApp vs Telegram: Which is better and why?
Both applications are based around instant messaging and although WhatsApp is still the most used worldwide, Telegram has increased its users after the privacy policies of WhatsApp changed in 2021.

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan's son Aryan Khan was arrested by the NCB on October 3 and on October 7, he was sent into 14 days of judicial custody.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are currently facing a tough time. Their eldest son Aryan Khan has been arrested and sent to jail in cruise ship drugs case. It was on October 3 that he was arrested, while on October 7, he was sent into judicial custody. Later, he was taken to Arthur Road jail where reportedly he has been kept in quarantine cell. His lawyers applied for bail in sessions court which got pushed over to Wednesday. Amidst all this, a report in India Today, speaks of how Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are dealing with the situation
A source informs the portal that Shah Rukh Khan is having sleepless nights while Gauri Khan has her brother and sister-in-law by her side for support. The source was quoted saying, "It didn’t dawn on them that this will go on for such a long time. While the news of the arrest sent shock waves through the industry, SRK immediately sought legal advice on the matter dialling up some of the best experts in the country. Satish Maneshinde was approached, and he gave SRK the confidence that Aryan would be out sooner than expected. However, that wasn’t the case as the court rejected his bail plea on the grounds that it was ‘unmaintainable’ and that news really shook the family."
It is also reported that Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are making multiple calls to NCB officials to check on their son's health and well-being. However, they do not have direct access to Aryan Khan. "Gauri and SRK make multiple calls through the day to check on his health. Even though there is no direct access to Aryan, information on his well-being is conveyed to the family. There even was a request made to send home-cooked meals and his personal belongings to Aryan," said the source
Now, Aryan Khan's bail hearing is scheduled to take place on October 13.

Suhana Khan gives thumbs up to pregnant Kylie Jenner's naked, blood-soaked shoot that netizens found 'disturbing'
Kylie Jenner's naked, blood-soaked maternity shoot didn't appeal to the netizens in a good way. However, it has received a positive response from Shah Rukh Khan's daughter Suhana Khan.
Last month, Kylie Jenner confirmed that she is expecting her second child with partner Travis Scott. In the video Kylie was seen holding up a positive pregnancy test before the clip cuts to Scott, hugging her belly. And now the reality TV star has shot for a naked, blood-soaked maternity shoot but it didn't appeal to the netizens in a good way. However, it has received a positive response from Shah Rukh Khan's daughter Suhana Khan on Instagram
In the photos, Kylie is seen posing naked in the giant pool of blood that spreads all over her body. She is seen covering her modesty with her arms and sitting on the floor like a little girl.
Many people were of the opinion that what Kylie finds it appealing, is actually quite disturbing given the fact that she is pregnant with her second child. "Honestly I find this really disturbing since she’s pregnant," one user commented. Another one wrote, "The fact that you find this appealing is whats actually horrifying. Repent." Several other people joked about Kylie's shoot calling it 'that time of the month' and getting yourself drenched in blood when you sneeze on your period. Also Read - Worried sick about Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan in constant touch with mommy Gauri, taking hourly update about brother and dad Shah Rukh Khan
Suhana, on the other hand, seems to have found Kylie's recent shoot quite appealing. She gave Kylie a thumbs up in the comment section and liked her post
A couple of weeks ago, Kylie had shared that she was "always meant to" be a mother and seeing her daughter Stormi grow has been the "best part" of her last few years. She said that she takes parenthood "one day at a time" and urges other mothers to be kind to themselves.
Meanwhile, Suhana's response to Hrithik Roshan's emotional post for Aryan Khan after his arrest in a drug case had garnered a nationwide attention. A Mumbai Special NDPS Court on Monday deferred the bail application hearing of Aryan Khan to October 13 after the Narcotics Control Bureau sought time to file its reply in the matter.

His bail plea hearing will now happen on Wednesday and that will decide if he comes home or stays in jail further. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan have been devastated and are worried sick about their son. Now, we hear that Suhana Khan, who is away from the country, has been worried about her elder brother and has been in constant touch with mom Gauri. She is taking hourly updates about Aryan. We hear that the first thing she wanted to do when Aryan was arrested is to hop on a plane and come home and be by his father and mother’s side. She has also been worried about Shah Rukh, who hasn’t been eating or sleeping well ever since Aryan got arrested. However, Shah Rukh and Gauri decided that she should not come home now, when everything is so chaotic. They have also ensured that AbRam’s routine doesn’t get affected amid all this, since anyway he is too young to understand what is going on in the house.
Everyone in the family are disturbed and they have constant support from family and friends from the film fraternity. Shah Rukh has been having meetings with his lawyers in his desperation to bring Aryan home. Especially when no contraband was found on his person or in his belongings. Aryan has been cooperative during the interrogation and will continue to be so, his advocate has ensured to the NCB and the court.

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp down again for hours; services now restored
Facebook took to Twitter to announce the outage. “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” it said.
Facebook on Saturday 'apologised' to its users as social media company experienced a second outage, just days after a massive outage caused in a similar fashion.
Facebook and its applications Instagram and WhatsApp as well as Messenger were down again and its users around the world again had problems accessing services for hours.
Facebook took to Twitter to announce the outage. “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” it said. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
It happened around 12 am (IST), according to downdetector, a portal that detects outages on websites. The company said that a "configuration change" had impacted users globally.
Around two hours later, the company said that it has fixed the problem.
"We're so sorry if you weren't able to access our products during the last couple of hours," the company said it a statement on Friday evening. "We know how much you depend on us to communicate with one another. We fixed the issue - thanks again for your patience this week."
People flocked to Twitter to report about another outage.
“What’s up with Instagram?” read a tweet that included a picture of cartoon character Bart Simpson sitting in a corner in apparent punishment.
“It’s not even 4 days and it’s already down again.”

Dangerous malware targets over 10 million Android users: Details here
Numerous mobile applications—functioning as Trojans—have been subscribing unsuspecting users to paid services since November 2020, discovered researchers with mobile security company Zimperium.
Named GriftHorse by researchers Aazim Yaswant and Nipun Gupta, this malware campaign targeted over 10 million Android users from over 70 countries and stole "hundreds of millions of Euros."
These malicious apps were distributed using Google Play Store and third-party application stores.
In this article
GriftHorse uses spamming, misinformation, local language to trick users
Developers used Apache Cordova framework to create malware applications
GriftHorse went undetected by antivirus software vendors for months
New threats take advantage of cross-platform development frameworks
How it works
GriftHorse uses spamming, misinformation, local language to trick users
The victims, once their phones get infected, receive at least five spam alerts in an hour to claim fake prizes.
After accepting the offer, they are redirected to a web page asking them to submit their phone numbers for verification. These web pages use local languages to establish trust.
Submitted numbers are then linked to a premium SMS service, charging over €30 a month.
Developers used Apache Cordova framework to create malware applications
Cybercriminals used the Apache Cordova mobile application development framework—which allows cross-platform mobile development—to create the Trojans.
Cordova allows developers to update applications automatically—in this case, victims continued to lose money until they rectified the issue by contacting their SIM operators.
The developers avoided using hardcoded URLs or reusing domains to evade detection.
The Trojans were served based on users' locations to maintain language specificity.
GriftHorse went undetected by antivirus software vendors for months
According to the Zimperium researchers, more than 200 Trojan applications were used in this malware campaign and they went completely undetected for several months on other antivirus providers.
Recently, Zimperium reported its findings to Google, which then removed the malicious applications from the Google Play Store. However, third-party application stores may still be hosting the Trojans.
New threats take advantage of cross-platform development frameworks
The Zimperium researchers have also warned that "the technique of abusing cross-platform development frameworks to stay undetected" was being used more and more. Also, it is harder to detect such campaigns on the end of antivirus providers.

WhatsApp testing feature for hiding profile photos from select contacts
WhatsApp, in its latest move to strengthen security features, is testing a custom privacy setting for hiding profile photos from select contacts.
It is not certain if WhatsApp will release this feature to everyone or when that will happen. For now, the feature has been added in the Android 2.21.21.2 beta update.
Notably, an option to hide profile photos already exists on WhatsApp.
How will the update change existing privacy settings?
The profile photo privacy settings, currently, include the "Everyone," "My Contacts," and "Nobody" options. Selecting "Nobody" allows hiding profile photos from all contacts, whereas selecting "My Contacts" allows hiding them from unknown contacts.
Once the new feature is added, users would also see a "My contacts except..." option. This option, notably, was first introduced under the WhatsApp Status privacy settings back in 2017.
Last Seen, About privacy settings to get same feature
In order to expand on other privacy settings introduced several years ago, WhatsApp is also testing the "My contacts except..." option for Last Seen and About features, reported WABetaInfo.
It remains to be seen if WhatsApp is also testing the "Only Share With" option, which is available in the WhatsApp Status privacy settings, for Profile Photo, Last Seen, and About.
Customized settings will provide personalized privacy
The "My contacts except..." option would also be useful in hiding personal photos as well as the Last Seen and About information from individual contacts, who can't be blocked but are in the habit of misusing such details.
In recent times, WhatsApp is coming up with a lot of security updates to remain as the preferred social media platform over Signal, Telegram, and others.
WhatsApp is also testing end-to-end encrypted backup
WhatsApp is also currently testing an end-to-end encrypted backup feature for both Android and iOS. The feature protects chat history and media from unauthorized access.
The platform is also working on a global voice message player and additional disappearing message features.
Besides, multi-device support is being rolled out for accessing WhatsApp from one primary smartphone and up to four additional devices.

Facebook’s share started falling after Wall Street Journal began publishing a series of stories based on a cache of internal documents on September 13.

Explained: What led to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp's global outage
Facebook blamed the "faulty configuration change" for nearly six hours of global outage adding that its internal tools and systems were also impacted complicating attempts to diagnose and resolve the problem.
Facebook Inc blamed a "faulty configuration change" for a nearly six-hour outage on Monday that prevented the company's 3.5 billion users from accessing its social media and messaging services such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.
Social media giant Facebook and its two affiliates WhatsApp and Instagram were down for nearly six hours on October 4 with users around the globe leaving users confused and in disbelief over the large-scale outage.
The outage also triggered a sell-off in the stock market with Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s personal wealth slashing nearly $6 billion in a matter of hours.
The stocks fell nearly 4.9 percent on October 4 cumulating to a 15 percent drop since mid-September, Bloomberg reported.
What happened?
Facebook blamed the "faulty configuration change" for nearly six hours of global outage adding that its internal tools and systems were also impacted complicating attempts to diagnose and resolve the problem.
"Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication. This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt," Facebook noted.
Expanding on Facebook's statement on the root cause behind the outage, tech experts explain a Domain Name System (DNS) mishap.
“Their [Facebook and its affiliates] DNS names stopped resolving, and their infrastructure IPs were unreachable. It was as if someone had "pulled the cables" from their data centers all at once and disconnected them from the Internet,” two senior Engineers at Cloudflare, a web infrastructure and Web security company explained in a blog post.
According to the duo, Facebook stopped announcing routes to its DNS server through Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), a mechanism to exchange routing information between autonomous systems (AS) on the Internet.
Simply put, the internet that is connected through several networks, exchanges route information constantly to deliver every network packet to their final destinations. These networks are bound together by BGP that allows Facebook and other websites to advertise their presence to other networks that form the Internet, which went offline causing the outage.
When anyone tries to reach Facebook in the browser through its URL https://facebook.com, the DNS resolver that translates this domain into the IP address checks the cache and uses it. In case, there is no such cache available, it answers by the domain nameservers, typically hosted by the entity that owns it. If such nameservers are also unavailable or fail to respond, the browser displays an error to the user.
“At 1658 UTC we noticed that Facebook had stopped announcing the routes to their DNS prefixes. That meant that, at least, Facebook’s DNS servers were unavailable. Because of this Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 DNS resolver could no longer respond to queries asking for the IP address of facebook.com or instagram.com,” the blog reiterated along with a screenshot of the failed Facebook DNS servers.
Meanwhile, other Facebook IP addresses remained routed but weren’t particularly useful since without DNS Facebook and related services were effectively unavailable, it added.
Essentially, Facebook and its affiliates disconnected themselves from the Internet.
Coincidently, the outage came a day after “Facebook’s whistleblower” appeared in a major interview on ‘60 Minutes’ alleging that the tech giant knew its products were fueling hate and harming children's mental health.
Impact
As the most popular social media networks went down around the world, more people resorted to other messenger applications like Signal that saw a sudden surge in downloads.
People look for alternatives and want to know more or discuss what’s going on. When Facebook became unreachable, we started seeing increased DNS queries to Twitter, Signal and other messaging and social media platforms, the blog noted.
“Signups are way up on Signal (welcome everyone!) We also know what it’s like to work through an outage, and wish the best for the engineers working on bringing back service on other platforms #Mondays,” Signal confirmed in a Twitter post.
The outage was also a reminder about the scale at which Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram connect the people around the world and its impact.

Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan arrest LIVE Updates: Aryan Khan arrested by NCB in drug raid case
Mumbai Cruise Party: Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan was seen in the custody of the NCB.
Mumbai/New Delhi: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's 23-year-old son Aryan Khan was arrested on Sunday following a raid at a party on a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai last night by the Narcotics Control Bureau or NCB. He was among the eight people questioned after the raids.
Shah Rukh Khan was seen leaving his home and heading for his lawyer's office shortly before the arrest was confirmed.
The high-profile raid yielded 13 grams of cocaine, 21 grams of charas and 22 pills of MDMA, the NCB has said. The charges brought against Aryan Khan include purchase, possession and use of banned substances, it added.
"All eight, including Aryan Khan, are being questioned. Based on their statements further action will be taken," the anti-drugs agency had said earlier in a statement.
There were two women among the eight questioned. The eight people were Munmun Dhamecha, Nupur Sarika, Ismeet Singh, Mohak Jaswal, Vikrant Chhoker, Gomit Chopra, Aryan Khan, Arbaaz Merchant. Of the eight, three including Aryan Khan were taken for a medical test. He was also seen in a viral video on social media allegedly shot after the raids.
The NCB team boarded the Goa-bound ship disguised as passengers, sources said. According to officials, the party began after the ship left Mumbai and was at sea.
Drugs like Ecstasy, Cocaine, MD (Mephedrone) and Charas were recovered from the party on board the ship, the agency said.
During the operation, the suspects were searched and different drugs were recovered from them, which they had hidden in their clothes, undergarments and purses, an NCB official told news agency PTI.
"Their statements are being recorded. Based on the facts, arrests will be made and the accused will be produced in the NDPS court," a senior NCB officer told NDTV.
The cruise company in a statement on Sunday said it had nothing to do with the incident.
"Cordelia Cruises is in no way, directly or indirectly, connected to this incident. Cordelia Cruises had chartered its ship for a private event to a Delhi-based event management company," Jurgen Bailom, Chief Executive Officer and President, Waterways Leisure Tourism Pvt Ltd said in the statement.
"We, at Cordelia Cruises, condemn all acts such as these and will strictly refrain from letting our ship out for similar events in the future. Nonetheless, Cordelia Cruises is extending our full support and cooperating with the authorities," it added.
The Congress, which is part of the ruling coalition in Maharashtra, on Sunday alleged that the raid and subsequent action was an attempt to divert attention from the "real issue" of the drugs seizure at Mundra port in Gujarat.
The Narcotics Control Bureau has stepped up action on anti-drugs cases since last year following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and a wide-ranging investigation into alleged drug abuse.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had also seized close to 3,000 kg of heroin at Gujarat's Mundra port early last month, and recovered around 37 kg of the narcotic drug, along with cocaine - or substance suspected to be the contraband items - from Delhi and Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

Govt final decision on 60s issue within days; Limit rule to new arrivals
KUWAIT CITY,: It seems that the circle of those against the decision for expatriates above the age of 60 years and without higher learning certificates from renewing work permits, except after paying a fee of KD 2,000 is expanding dramatically, reports Al-Rai daily. This comes after the Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Abdullah Al-Salman showed interest in amending the decision, prompting 11 unions and car companies to adopt his opinion with the head of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry Muhammad Al-Saqr, and directing His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al- Khaled to look into the amendment of this decision.
In this regard, informed sources explained that the unions included car dealerships, Kuwaiti industries and banking, as well as the Al-Mulla Group and other car companies that addressed the matter in this regard separately, especially in terms of technical workers in order to benefit from their expertise, let alone the fact that the process is generally reflected in the public interest.
These institutions addressed His Highness the Prime Minister in their letter by saying, “Given the importance of the projects we undertake in the public and private sectors and the need to complete these projects in line with specific timelines, and to avoid the country’s development plan from being affected by the delay caused by the COVID-19 repercussions, there is a need to amend the 60-year decision in a manner that is appropriate with the requirements of these different sectors.
The automotive, banking, and industry sectors permanently evaluate their own technical labor, and sort them out to keep the best and fittest ones. Their sectors always renew technical labor without regard to age. The “sixty-year decision” means irregular companies that bring in labor and leave them loose. With regard to agencies and companies that are members of banking and industry associations, most of them have not had any doubts regarding marginal and bulk employment for more than 50 years.
The sources went on to explain that the skilled workers do not need university degrees, but their experience, competence, and courses inside and outside Kuwait are of relevance. These workers were subjected to such procedures throughout the work period to develop their skills and keep pace with the development of industry in the world, which cost the owners of these businesses exorbitant sums.
Those who objected to the decision stated that there are a large number of such employees who are over the age of 60 and served in the companies for periods exceeding 20 years. They form the backbone and mainstay of these companies. They may not hold higher qualifications, but they instead have broad and extensive practical experience in the field of the Kuwaiti labor market. They also have a high determination to continue to work and give for years to come, as well as their dedication and sincerity in work. Regarding the government’s position, the sources stressed that the advisory team of the Cabinet will make the final decision within days regarding the “sixty-year decision”.
They explained that there is more than one proposal in this regard on the table. The Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Abdullah Al-Salman is pushing for reducing the work permit renewal fees for this segment from KD 2,000 to KD 500 with private health insurance. That way, the state does not bear any financial burdens that may result from this segment. Perhaps one of the parties most opposed to the “sixty-year” decision is the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). It has reached the extent that its president Muhammad Al-Saqar called on His Highness the Prime Minister to intervene personally to amend the decision as soon as possible.
He said, “To reduce the cost of those covered by the decision on public money, so to speak, it is possible to resort to more than one scenario”. Al-Saqar explained that the most prominent of these is limiting the application of the decision on new arrivals to work in Kuwait, without it being applied to those who hold current work permits. The segments covered by the ban have refined their experiences and developed their capabilities in the Kuwaiti labor market, and the country that invested in this refinement and development still has the right to obtain, for years to come, the returns of this investment.” He pointed out that “the concerned offi- cial authorities announced that expatriates working in the state are not subject to the decision, as if the age of 60 had negative effects on non-state workers only.”

Kuwait to create 100,000 jobs for citizens in private sector in 4 years
Cabinet-approved plan aims to cut salary burden, which devours 60% of state budget
Abu Dhabi: Amid growing burden of youth employment in the public sector and the high unemployment rate, Kuwait’s Cabinet has assigned the Public Authority for Manpower to create a clear and feasible plan for the employment of 100,000 citizens in the private sector in four years, local media reported.
The plan, set to be implemented from next year, aims to reduce the pressure of paying salaries, which devours approximately 60 per cent of the state budget, sources told Al Qabas.
It will encourage the employment of Kuwaitis in the private sector, instead of the public sector, with its benefits and advantages being marketed in the media, the sources said.
The Manpower Authority was assigned to conduct studies on the incentive plans implemented by other Gulf Cooperation Council countries, regarding providing incentives to private sector companies to employ citizens and to identify high-priority jobs to attract local talents, in 2022.
The authority was asked with developing policies to close the salary gap between expatriate workers and citizens and bridge the gaps in the salary scale.
The authority was also instructed to reduce fake employment, effectively monitor companies, and impose more effective penalties on violators.
Of Kuwait’s total manpower of 2.1 million, 416,760 are Kuwaitis and 1,653,242 are foreigners.
Kuwaitis account for 354,229 in the public sector, while foreigners are 15,788.
In the private sector, Kuwaitis account for 62,531, while foreigners are 1,537,454.

WhatsApp to stop running on these Android, iOS devices starting November 1
WhatsApp has announced that starting November, the app will stop supporting certain iOS, Android and KaiOS versions. Here's all you need to know.
WhatsApp is a popular messaging application and it continuously works towards serving its users better. The company keeps on launching new features on both Android and iOS versions of the app. The company also keeps on ending support for older generation devices in order to improve compatibility for newer phones. WhatsApp will stop working on these Android smartphones and iPhone models starting 1st November 2021.
WhatsApp has announced that starting November, the app will stop supporting iPhones running iOS 9. Support for iOS 8 and earlier iOS versions was dropped last at the beginning of 2021 and now even support for iOS 9 has dropped. So, this means that iPhones running on iOS 10 or above will only be able to run WhatsApp. Currently, iPhone 4s and earlier models are not supported to run iOS 10, which means iPhone 4s owners will have to upgrade to a newer device.
As for Android, the company has announced that WhatsApp will now be supported only on Android devices running on Android 4.1 or above. The Facebook-owned giant has also announced that WhatsApp will now only run on KaiOS devices running on KaiOS version 2.5.1 or above, starting November 2021.
In order to continue using the services, WhatsApp users can try updating their devices to the latest operating system. However, if the user is running a device that does not support the newer version of iOS, Android or KaiOS, they are out of luck. The only way to keep using WhatsApp would be to upgrade your smartphone.
In order to check the software version that is running on your Android smartphone, head over to Settings > About Phone. On an iOS device, one can head over to Settings > General > About.

Leaked! Your WhatsApp feature to change? Log in on 2 phones soon
A WhatsApp feature that is extremely useful is all set to be greatly improved, according to a leaker. It has been revealed that WhatsApp may allow users to log in on to their WhatsApp account on 2 or more phones at the same time.
WhatsApp recently added multi-device support in beta testing, catching up with services like Telegram and Signal that have allowed users to log into their account from multiple devices at the same time. Importantly, unlike rival Telegram, both WhatsApp and Signal have not yet allowed users to log in on multiple phones at the same time. WhatsApp is now working on changing that, according to a new leak, which suggests that the company is working on adding true multi-device support for the messaging service.
As part of the first changes to multi-device support, WhatsApp has been beta testing support for adding up to four connected WhatsApp Web or Whatsapp Desktop apps or Facebook Portal, which will not require your primary phone to be connected to the internet – or powered on. Now, noted feature leaker WABetaInfo states that the company is now working on “multi-device 2.0” that will allow users to connect a second mobile device to their primary device and use WhatsApp on both devices.
The leaker has spotted new changes hidden in the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for mobile, which show the same “Downloading Recent Messages” message for mobile screens, that users on the multi-device beta can currently see on their desktop when they open the app. This is a sign that the service could allow syncing your primary smartphone’s WhatsApp chats to a second device. At the moment, WhatsApp is currently testing the multi-device functionality in beta form for several users on the stable channel.
However, there is no evidence that WhatsApp is working on adding support for a second smartphone – after all, the “Downloading Recent Messages” screen could be designed for an iPad or Android tablet, which is currently not officially supported. It is also currently unclear when the company will officially launch this feature as it is currently hidden on the latest beta version of the app for smartphones, according to the leaker.

WhatsApp launches test of in-app business directory
The messaging service has increasingly courted business users, with a specialized app for small firms and an API, or type of software interface, for larger businesses to connect their systems, which generates revenue.
Facebook's messaging service WhatsApp on Wednesday launched a new feature to make it possible to search for businesses within its app for the first time, the company told Reuters.
The test in São Paulo, Brazil, which allows WhatsApp users to find shops and services through a directory in the app, is the latest feature in Facebook's drive to bolster ecommerce on its services.
"This could be ... the primary way that people start a commerce process in WhatsApp," Matt Idema, Facebook's vice president of business messaging, said in an interview this week.
WhatsApp, unlike Facebook and Instagram, does not run ads in its app. Idema said previously businesses were promoting their WhatsApp numbers on packaging or websites or using Facebook ads to bring users into chats on WhatsApp.
The messaging service has increasingly courted business users, with a specialized app for small firms and an API, or type of software interface, for larger businesses to connect their systems, which generates revenue.
As online retail has continued to boom during the COVID-19 pandemic, Facebook has pushed in-app shopping features across its apps. In June, Zuckerberg announced Facebook's Shops feature would expand to WhatsApp in several countries. In recent years, WhatsApp also has also launched shopping tools like product catalogs and shopping carts.
WhatsApp said the new test would include thousands of businesses in categories like food, retail and local services across certain São Paulo neighborhoods. Idema said India and Indonesia were good next candidates to expand the feature.
The company, which has faced user backlash amid confusion over privacy updates and was fined by the Irish data protection regulator over privacy breaches, said it will not know or store the location of people's search or results through the new directory feature.
Idema did not rule out the possibility that WhatsApp could introduce in-app ads in the future.
"There's definitely a route on ads, which is Facebook's core business model, that over the long term I think in some form or another will be part of the business model for WhatsApp," he said. WhatsApp says about one million advertisers currently use Facebook and Instagram's 'click to WhatsApp' ads to send users to the messaging app.
Idema said WhatsApp, which Facebook bought for $19 billion in a landmark 2014 deal but which has been slow to monetize its features, was also excited about non-ad models like building software to help businesses to manage their services across Facebook's apps.

How to Make Money on Instagram With & Without Followers
There’s no hiding it, Instagram is one of my favorite social media channels. Not only is it a great way to share your life with friends and family and promote your business, but it’s also a great way to make a lot of money.
Best of all, you don’t need a big following and there are several different ways to earn an income. In this article, I’m going to show you how to make money on Instagram using seven of my favorite strategies:
Get paid for sponsored posts.
Promote affiliate links.
Start an Instagram shop.
Make money from your content.
Become an Instagram coach.
Advertise your brand.
Get paid for teaching your audience.
Ready? Let’s get to it.
Why Should You Try to Make Money on Instagram?
Instagram remains one of the most popular social media apps.
In fact, it was one of the top five downloaded apps in the App Store and Google Play in 2020. As of January 2021, it was second only to TikTok in download count. The platform’s active user numbers are equally impressive. At the end of 2020, Instagram surpassed one billion global users.
If the sustained growth of Instagram wasn’t enough to convince you that it’s a great platform to make money on, maybe the comments of Mark Zuckerberg may help. At the company’s first Creator Week in June 2021, he said of Instagram: “Our goal is to be the best platform for creators like you to make a living,”
That’s exactly what’s transpired.
Instagram accounts with over one million followers can make in excess of $1000 per post, according to influence.co.
That’s not all.
You don’t need to be a mega-celebrity to make money on Instagram. Plenty of micro-influencers with followers in the thousands make a decent income through our 7 strategies.
What You Need to Make Money on Instagram
There are three things you need to make money on Instagram: reach, influence, and engaged followers.
Reach and Influence
The only reason businesses pay money to Instagram users is the exposure to the audiences they receive in return. They hope to make money from those followers. For it to be worth their time, these brands are only interested in influencers with large audiences. The bigger the audience, the more money they can make.
If you only have a few hundred Instagram followers to begin with then your potential audience size is low. With such a small sample space, your content won’t get seen by lots of people, let alone drive sales to your or a brand’s products.
To get started, you’ll definitely need at least a few thousand followers to be able to make money.
Engaged Followers
Sure, more followers will boost your ego. Mathematically, it increases your probability to appear in more Instagram feeds. However, a high follower count doesn’t necessarily mean high engagement, and shadow-banning on Instagram can leave you with little to no reach.
If everyone is cold to your posts, they probably won’t be inclined to buy anything you promote.
So on your Instagram account, if you rarely get people commenting, liking, sharing, and following you, then it doesn’t matter how big your following is, you probably won’t make much money.
On the other hand, even if you only have 1,000 followers and they are actively engaging with your posts, the potential to make money is there. Brands are willing to invest in you because of the profitable actions you’ll drive through your account.
7 Ways to Make Money on Instagram
Okay, so now you know why I think Instagram is a great platform to make money on and what you need to make serious bank. Now let’s look at my favorite ways of doing just that.
1. Become an Influencer and Get Paid to Advertise Products
I’ll preface this first strategy by stating that this is the easily most common tactic to earn money on Instagram.
Again, it isn’t viable for people with a few hundred followers. You need a minimum following of about 5,000 followers and a high engagement rate.
People with this reach can earn up to six figures per post.
All you have to do is post pictures around your interests that show your personality, helping you build up a glamorous personal brand.
Sure, you can follow a planned marketing strategy, but Instagram followers love when you are being true to your authentic self. As you share pictures and build your influence organically, relevant brands are likely to approach you rather than the other way round.
Once you satisfy these criteria, here’s a simplistic version of how making money works:
you create a sponsored Instagram post (it could be a photo or video)
you include a branded hashtag, mention, or link to promote a brand
you share it with your audience
you get paid
There is one warning going into this though: don’t pursue sponsored posts simply to make money without believing in the brand you’re promoting. Taking too many of such posts will also burn your audience’s interest and lead to loss of trust in your brand. For example, if you’ve built a following based on visiting fast food restaurants and writing greasy food reviews—suddenly partnering with a weight-loss brand could damage your reputation.
Simple enough to remember, right?
Let’s look at a few people who do this well in real life.
Adam Gonon is a fashion and lifestyle influencer from New York. With a touch over 50,000 followers, he certainly doesn’t have the biggest audience in the world, but that doesn’t stop him from creating sponsored content every few days.
You don’t have to promote fashion or other lifestyle products to get paid for sponsored posts. Amanda Holtzer is a health, diet, and nutrition influencer who works with brands like Costco and Juice Press to create sponsored content.
2. Promote Affiliate Offers
Promoting affiliate offers is not dissimilar to getting paid for sponsored posts. The difference is that you only get paid if people buy the product or service you’re promoting rather than receive payment for your post.
This can be both positive and negative, depending on your audience. While sponsored posts have guaranteed income, you could make a lot more by promoting the right affiliate offer. On the other hand, you could also make a lot less.
Being an affiliate on Instagram is a lot harder than running affiliate ads on your website. Not only do you require a launch audience, but Instagram doesn’t allow clickable links anywhere except your bio. The only way to promote an offer and make sure you receive the affiliate income you’re due is by using promo codes. These are trackable and can be added to your post or story easily. Of course, you’ll still need your followers to visit the affiliate website on their own.
3. Start an Instagram Shop
With an Instagram Shop, you can integrate your e-commerce store with your Instagram profile. This is the only way you can promote your products directly to Instagram followers through your posts, Stories, the Explore tab, and the Shop tab on your profile.
There used to be a lot of friction for e-commerce store owners who wanted to sell through Instagram, but not anymore. Instagram Shopping completely removes friction, letting customers easily check out products in the app and then head to your store at the click of a button.
Let’s say you’re a clothing store and you want to promote an outfit. Simply upload a picture of your model wearing your outfit, and Instagram will let you tag up to five products per post (you can tag up to 20 products per carousel.) You can also promote products in stories and videos, too.
I would like to show you one specific Instagram page that’s completely killing it.
It’s called Doug the Pug. As the name implies, it’s all about the life of one of the Internet’s coolest and cuddliest pugs, Doug.
This page chronicles Doug’s life and takes followers along on his adventures. As of August 2021, Doug the Pug had 3.9 million followers. Doug has his own book entitled Doug the Pug: King of Pop Culture (which is pretty impressive considering that he can’t actually write.) He even does appearances all around the country.
In other words, Doug’s owner has created a massive brand.
Guess what? The popularity they’ve generated is centered around their Instagram page. With 3.9 million followers, you can bet that they’re driving plenty of high-quality traffic to the store and consequently getting paid handsomely for it.
This is a brilliant example of how Instagram can be used to build a brand from scratch. Doug the Pug is a template you could use to launch your own brand and sell from your online store.
Just use your creativity and come up with an interesting angle that will get people excited and eager to invest in your brand.
There’s no doubt that there is a significant time investment involved, but it can pay dividends if you’re able to establish a large and loyal audience. The best part is all of the different ways you can monetize your brand later on.
4. Make Money From Your Content
Just like YouTube, you can monetize your content directly on Instagram. Try one of the three ways below.
IGTV Ads
IGTV ads are a great way to monetize your Instagram content. In March 2021, Instagram made ads available to creators in the U.S., the UK, and Australia. They appear when you watch IGTV from a creator’s feed.
Instagram’s COO, Justin Osofsky, says creators receive 55 percent of the advertising revenue generated through IGTV. That’s the same rate as YouTube making it a great alternative.
Live Badges
If you broadcast live on Instagram, Badges are a fantastic way for your followers to show their support. Think of them as tips your audience can give you when you broadcast. Your viewers can buy a badge during a broadcast, selecting from three levels of hearts that each have a different price point (one for $0.99, two for $1.99, or 3 for $4.99.)
Badges have gone down well with creators. Fitness influencer @charleeatkins said: “Badges in Instagram couldn’t have come at a better time for fitness creators like me. It’s an easy way to channel the love we already see in our Live feeds so we can continue building and creating for our fans.”
Patreon and Only Fans
You don’t have to rely on Instagram’s in-platform features to pay your bills. Third-party sites like Patreon and Only Fans are another great way to make money from your content. In both cases, you’ll want to give away a ton of free value on Instagram before encouraging your audience to follow you on one of the two platforms for exclusive content.
5. Become an Instagram Coach or Consultant
If you are killing it on Instagram and have a massive, engaged following, why not make money by teaching others to do the same thing?
People want to know how to build a following on Instagram and monetize it—it’s why I’m writing this article, after all. If you know how to do it, and have done so yourself, you can make a lot of money.
Take a look at Foundr as an example.
Right now, they have built a massive audience to the tune of 3.3 million on Instagram. And since it’s their strong suit, Foundr founder Nathan now sells his Instagram marketing expertise in an online course called Instagram Domination at a whopping price of $1,997.
Given that businesses that are passionate about Instagram marketing follow them, Foundr has a great pool of potential qualified buyers in their audience with them on Instagram. Many of these prospects are likely to buy their course.
The best news? Anyone can do this if they have a big enough following.
Travel bloggers, food bloggers, marketing consultants—if people are active in your niche and are trying to grow a following doing what you do, launching a course could be highly profitable.
6. Indirectly Make Money by Advertising Your Brand
You don’t have to have a business that’s directly tied to Instagram in order to use the platform to generate sales. Thousands of canny entrepreneurs have leveraged their Instagram following to make money through a separate business. It really doesn’t matter what kind of business you operate; Instagram is a great way to get the word out and generate traffic and sales.
Instagram is particularly powerful if you have a physical product that you can show people using. Service-based businesses like travel agents also work incredibly well.
Hashtags will be particularly important here if you want to increase the reach of your Instagram account. The more followers you have, the more people will see your posts and consider using your business in the future.
My article on boosting Instagram followers will be a big help in this regard.
7. Teach Your Audience and Get Paid
Promoting other people’s products via affiliate links or selling physical products through an online store are both great options to make money on Instagram. What if I revealed there was a way to earn more money than affiliate marketing without having to handle physical inventory?
There is, and it’s called selling info products.
Info products have become a bit of a dirty term, but you don’t need to sell dating advice or weird diets to make money on Instagram this way. If your Instagram account teaches your audience how to do something—whether that’s learning a foreign language, practicing yoga, or woodworking—you can create a premium info product that you can sell for upwards of $100.
There are hundreds of Instagrammers doing this right now.
One doing particularly well is Minimalist Baker, a food blogger who creates recipes with ten ingredients or less and sells a course on Food photography. As you can see, you don’t even need to sell something directly related to your niche. Minimalist Baker isn’t selling a cooking series or a recipe book—she’s teaching Instagrammers how to take pictures as well as she does—and raking in the cash.

WhatsApp's new privacy play for cloud backups: How it works and its impact on users
WhatsApp is now offering users an opportunity to encrypt their backups before they are stored in the cloud.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
* Users who opt-in for the feature will see their messages, videos and images encrypted upon which a random key will be generated on their devices. That key can be secured either with a password that a user chooses, or manually with a 64-digit encryption key
* If one does choose to use a password, WhatsApp will store your key in a Backup Key Vault that resides in a hardware secure module (HSW)
* Entering too many wrong passwords (to access your key in the HSM Backup Key Vault), it says, will render the key 'permanently inaccessible.' The feature has, presumably, been integrated to avoid brute force hacking
In line with a grander strategy towards providing its users with more privacy, instant messaging platform WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature, offering end-to-end encryption on users' backup of messages.
Announcing the rollout of the privacy-first feature, WhatsApp global chief executive officer, Will Cathcart took to Twitter to say, “This has been years in the making. We're taking advantage of development in hardware storage to safely store your backup encryption key in a vault no one else can access. We're providing options to remember a 64-bit key or choose a password we do not know and cannot access. Neither can Apple or Google.”
How does it work?
End-to-end encryption has been around on WhatsApp since 2016. What this effectively means is that messages exchanged between two parties can only be read by either of them. However, until now, this wasn't the case with backed up WhatsApp messages that typically get stored on iCloud or Google Cloud. WhatsApp has now sought to close that loophole with a little bit of advanced cryptography.
If you allow WhatsApp to back up your message histories, it does so either on iCloud or Google Cloud, both of which aren't end-to-end encrypted. This means that if government agencies or law enforcement bodies want access to them, they can pressure Apple or Google to release this information. To avoid this, WhatsApp is now offering users an opportunity to encrypt their backups before they are stored in the cloud.
Users who opt-in for the feature will see their messages, videos and images encrypted upon which a random key will be generated on their devices. That key can be secured either with a password that a user chooses, or manually with a 64-digit encryption key. It goes without saying that the password will be easier to remember.
If one does choose to use a password, WhatsApp will store your key in a Backup Key Vault that resides in a hardware secure module (HSW). Think of it as a security deposit box at a bank that no one else can access. If a user opts for the 64-digit encryption key route, it will not be stored in the HSM Backup Key Vault.
But WhatsApp has taken data protection a little further with a couple of additional security features. Entering too many wrong passwords (to access your key in the HSM Backup Key Vault), it says, will render the key 'permanently inaccessible.' The feature has, presumably, been integrated to avoid brute force hacking.
Moreover, WhatsApp will also duplicate your key five times, storing each copy in five different data centres across different geographies, effectively ensuring that if one data centre suffers an outage, you can still access your chat history.
Although WhatsApp's latest security measure is welcome, concerns still swirl over the kind of information it shares with Facebook and Facebook's third-party companies – specifically relating to the metadata it collects.
Other messaging apps like Signal, for instance, have entirely circumvented the issue of users' chats becoming compromised by not storing any of them on cloud backups at all. However, for those insistent on having a safe and secure backup of their chats, WhatsApp represents the best option.

UK urges pregnant women to get vaccinated given COVID-19 variant risks
LONDON: British health authorities have urged more pregnant women to get coronavirus jabs after a national study found the Delta variant appeared to increase their risk of severe symptoms.
Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent, chief midwifery officer for England, wrote to GPs and midwives on Friday (Jul 30) urging them to encourage expectant mothers to get a jab as new data showed an increase in severe illness among those hospitalised with virus symptoms.
She said she was calling on pregnant women to "protect themselves and their babies".
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the Royal College of Midwives have also recommended vaccination of pregnant women.
Public Health England has said it recommends pregnant women get Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines because they have been given to more than 130,000 pregnant women in the United States.
A paper based on national data compiled by the UK Obstetric Surveillance System, published online on Jul 25, found that the proportion of pregnant women admitted to hospital with moderate to severe infection rose "significantly" after the Delta variant became dominant in May.
The paper by University of Oxford researchers found that pregnant women hospitalised during the Delta wave were more likely to get pneumonia, with a third requiring respiratory support.
"It is very concerning that admissions of pregnant women to hospital with COVID-19 are increasing and that pregnant women appear to be more severely affected by the Delta variant of the disease," said the study's chief investigator Marian Knight, professor of maternal and child population health at the University of Oxford.
None of more than 3,000 pregnant women admitted to hospital with virus symptoms since February was fully vaccinated, the study said.
The study did not look at pregnant women with mild infections who were treated outside hospital.
World Health Organization vaccines chief Kate O'Brien said this week that being pregnant has been shown to increase the risk of severe disease.
"It does put you at greater risk and that's probably more true later in pregnancy when you've got a big belly and your lung capacity is reduced," she said during a live Q&A session on social media.
"It's really important that pregnant women understand the importance of being vaccinated."
The UK has recommended vaccination of pregnant women since April but takeup has been very low compared to the general population, the paper said, blaming misinformation fuelled by changing advice early in the vaccine rollout.
"The findings of this study strongly highlight the urgent need for an international approach to tackle this misinformation and improve uptake of the vaccine during pregnancy," it said.
A survey by the RCOG in May found that 58 per cent of pregnant women offered the vaccine had declined it, with most saying they feared harming the baby or were waiting for more information on safety.

Australia's east coast battles rising COVID-19 cases
MELBOURNE: Australia's east coast states of New South Wales and Queensland faced an escalating battle against the COVID-19 Delta variant on Sunday (Aug 1), with millions under strict lockdown and authorities urging more testing and vaccinations to rein in the outbreaks.
Sydney and its surroundings, under a stay-at-home order for five weeks already, reported 239 new locally acquired cases of the highly infectious Delta strain, matching the record daily number in the current outbreak that was reported on Thursday.
The city's 5 million residents and those in neighbouring regional centres spanning 200km of coastline are to stay home until Aug 28 at least.
The total number of cases in the outbreak, which began in mid-June, has reached 3,427.
"I think what is important to know is that there is no roadmap for the Delta variant," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
"The challenge for us is getting as many people vaccinated in August as possible so by the time Aug 28 comes around, we have options as to how we can ease restrictions."
Australia's vaccination drive has been sluggish, with only 18 per cent of adults fully vaccinated so far. Brad Hazzard, NSW health minister, said that 70 per cent of the state's population could be fully vaccinated in about four months.
In neighbouring Queensland, there were nine new locally acquired cases of COVID-19, the biggest daily spike in almost a year. More than 3 million residents were put into a three-day snap lockdown on Saturday.
"It is vital (to get tested), anyone with any symptoms at all, it doesn't matter where you are, because I don't know where this virus is at the moment," Queensland's chief health officer Jeannette Young said.
Australia has managed to keep its epidemic largely under control with a total of just over 34,000 cases and 924 deaths. But the slow vaccination drive means that it could be months before the country's borders reopen.

Florida breaks record with more than 21,000 new coronavirus cases
Florida has reported 21,683 new cases, the state's highest one-day total since the start of the pandemic
Florida has reported 21,683 new cases of COVID-19, the state's highest one-day total since the start of the pandemic, according to federal health data, as its theme park resorts again started asking visitors to wear masks indoors.
The state has become the new national epicentre for the virus, accounting for around a fifth of all new cases in the US as the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus continues to spread.
Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has resisted mandatory mask mandates and vaccine requirements, and along with the state Legislature, has limited local officials' ability to impose restrictions meant to stop the spread of COVID-19. DeSantis on Friday barred school districts from requiring students to wear masks when classes resume next month.
The latest numbers were recorded on Friday and released on Saturday on the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website. The figures show how quickly the number of cases is rising in the Sunshine State: only a day earlier, Florida reported 17,093 new daily cases. The previous peak in Florida had been 19,334 cases reported on January 7, before the availability of vaccinations became widespread.
The state reported 409 deaths this week, bringing the total to more than 39,000 since its first in March 2020. The state's peak happened in mid-August 2020, when 1,266 people died over a seven-day period. Deaths usually follow increases in hospitalisations by a few weeks.
DeSantis has blamed the surge on a seasonal increase more Floridians are indoors because of the hot weather with air conditioning circulating the virus. About 60 per cent of Floridians 12 and older are vaccinated, ranking it about midway among the states.
The Florida Hospital Association said Friday that statewide COVID-19 hospitalisations are nearing last year's peak, and one of the state's largest health care systems, AdventHealth's Central Florida Division, this week advised it would no longer be conducting nonemergency surgeries in order to free up resources for COVID-19 patients.
Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld on Saturday became the latest theme park resorts in Florida to again ask visitors to wear masks indoors, with Universal also ordering its employees to wear face coverings to protect against COVID-19, which has been surging across the state.
All workers at Universal's Florida park on Saturday started being required to wear masks while indoors as the employees returned to practicing social distancing. The home to Harry Potter and Despicable Me rides also asked visitors to follow federal and local health guidelines by voluntarily wearing face coverings indoors.
The health and safety of our guests and team members is always our top priority, Universal said in a statement.
Health officials on Friday announced that coronavirus cases in Florida had jumped 50 per cent over the past week with COVID-19 hospitalisations in the state nearing last year's peak.
SeaWorld on Saturday posted on its website that it was recommending that visitors follow recently updated federal recommendations and wear face coverings while indoors.
The change in policy this week at the theme park resorts came after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that everyone wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
Crosstown rival Walt Disney World started requiring employees and guests older than 2 to wear masks on Friday, but it also went a step further. The Walt Disney Co. said in a statement that it would be requiring all salaried and non-union hourly employees in the US who work on site to be fully vaccinated.
Disney employees who aren't already vaccinated will have 60 days to do so and those still working from home will need to show proof of vaccination before returning. Disney said it was discussing the vaccine requirements with the union, and added that all new hires will be required to be fully vaccinated before starting work at the company.

Facebook developing AI, new ways to detect users under age 13
Facebook and Instagram weren't designed for people under the age of 13
Admitting that it is not easy to detect and remove accounts belonging to people under the age of 13, Facebook has said that it is looking at ways to convince people under age 13 to not lie about their age, including using the artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Facebook and Instagram weren't designed for people under the age of 13, so the company is now creating new ways to stop those who are underage from signing up.
"We're developing AI to find and remove underaged accounts, and new solutions to verify people's ages. We're also building new experiences designed specifically for those under 13," said Pavni Diwanji, VP of Youth Products at Facebook.
Facebook is also working with operating system (OS) providers, internet browsers and other providers so they can share information to help apps establish whether someone is of an appropriate age.
"Many argue that collecting ID is the answer to this industry problem, but there are significant limitations to this approach: many young people don't have an ID, ID collection isn't a fair or equitable solution, nor is it foolproof," the company said.
It said that access to government IDs varies depending on where you live in the world, as does the information contained in an ID such as a birthday.
"Some have access to IDs but don't get them unless they choose to travel, and some simply can't afford one. Indeed, lack of ID access disproportionately impacts underserved communities around the world, particularly young women," Facebook mentioned.
Currently, when people open Facebook apps to sign up for an account, they are asked for their birthday. This is called an age screen.
But verifying someone's age is not as simple as it might sound. While age screens are common in our industry, young people can -- and often do -- get around them by misrepresenting their age.
"The reality is that they're already online, and with no foolproof way to stop people from misrepresenting their age, we want to build experiences designed specifically for them, managed by parents and guardians," Diwanji said in a statement.
This includes a new Instagram experience for tweens.
"We believe that encouraging them to use an experience that is age appropriate and managed by parents is the right path. It's going to take a village to make this experience compelling enough so that this age group wants to use it, but we're determined to get it right," the company emphasised.
Facebook has already developed a technology that allows it to estimate people's ages, like if someone is below or above 18.
"We look at things like people wishing you a happy birthday and the age written in those messages. We also look at the age you shared with us on Facebook and apply it to our other apps where you have linked your accounts and vice versa. So if you share your birthday with us on Facebook, we'll use the same for your linked account on Instagram," Diwanji explained.
The social network said that it is focused on using existing data to inform its artificial intelligence technology.
"Where we do feel we need more information, we're developing a menu of options for someone to prove their age. This is a work in progress and we'll have more to share in time," said Facebook.

Vaccinated People With Breakthrough Infections Can Spread The Delta Variant, CDC Says
When revising its mask guidance this week to urge even vaccinated people to wear masks indoors in much of the country, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was criticized for not citing data in making that move.
Now it has — and the data is sobering.
The study details a COVID-19 outbreak that started July 3 in Provincetown, Mass., involving 469 cases. It found that three-quarters of cases occurred in fully vaccinated people. Massachusetts has a high rate of vaccination: about 69% among eligible adults in the state at the time of the study.
It also found no significant difference in the viral load present in the breakthrough infections occurring in fully vaccinated people and the other cases, suggesting the viral load of vaccinated and unvaccinated persons infected with the coronavirus is similar.
The CDC said the finding that fully vaccinated people could spread the virus was behind its move to change its mask guidance.
"High viral loads suggest an increased risk of transmission and raised concern that, unlike with other variants, vaccinated people infected with Delta can transmit the virus," Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC's director, said in a statement Friday.
"This finding is concerning and was a pivotal discovery leading to CDC's updated mask recommendation. The masking recommendation was updated to ensure the vaccinated public would not unknowingly transmit virus to others, including their unvaccinated or immunocompromised loved ones," Walensky said.

US to hold rare 2nd lottery for H-1B visa applicants
The H-1B visa, the most sought-after among Indian IT professionals, is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise.
In what can be good news for hundreds of Indian IT professionals seeking the H-1B work visa, the US immigration agency has decided to conduct a rare second lottery for the most sought-after visas to decide on the successful applicants who could not make it in the first random selection.
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said on Thursday that a decision was taken after determining that the computerised draw of lots for H-1B visas conducted early this year did not give them enough numbers of the Congressional mandated H-1B visas.
The H-1B visa, the most sought-after among Indian IT professionals, is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise.
The H-1B visa has an annual numerical limit cap of 65,000 visas each fiscal year as mandated by Congress. The first 20,000 petitions filed on behalf of beneficiaries with a US master's degree or higher are exempt from the cap.
Technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China.
“We recently determined that we needed to select additional registrations to reach the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 numerical allocations. On July 28, we selected previously submitted electronic registrations using a random selection process,” the USCIS said in a statement.
“The petition filing period based on registrations selected on July 28 will begin on August 2 and close on November 3. Individuals with selected registrations will have their myUSCIS accounts updated to include a selection notice, which includes details of when and where to file,” it said.
The move by the USCIS to conduct the second lottery will provide another chance to several applicants, including hundreds of Indian IT professionals, who could not make it in the first random selection.
The federal agency said that only those petitioners with selected registrations for FY 2022 are eligible to file H-1B cap-subject petitions.
The initial filing period for those with selected registrations for FY 2022 was from April 1, 2021, through June 30, 2021.
The USCIS said an H-1B cap-subject petition must be properly filed at the correct service centre and within the filing period indicated on the relevant registration selection notice.
Online filing is not available for H-1B petitions. Petitioners filing H-1B petitions must do so by paper and must include a printed copy of the applicable registration selection notice with the FY 2022 H-1B cap-subject petition.
“Registration selection only indicates that petitioners are eligible to file H-1B cap-subject petitions; it does not indicate that the petition will be approved," the USCIS said.
"Petitioners filing H-1B cap-subject petitions, including those petitions eligible for the advanced degree exemption, must still submit evidence and establish eligibility for petition approval based on existing statutory and regulatory requirements,” the USCIS added.

Travel restrictions in the US will not end until the delta variant threat subsides
With certain destinations reopening for travel it may seem as though things are heading back to normal, but it is far from true. The United States for example has announced that the country will continue its international travel restrictions for now as the delta variant becomes a cause for concern. The authorities in America are currently concerned regarding the surge in this deadly variant coupled with the opposition to vaccination.
Earlier, President Joe Biden had said that the administration is in process of deciding as to how soon the country can lift the ban. This is mainly in regards to the ban on European inbound travel, as German Chancellor Angela Merkel had raised the issue during her visit to the White House. Now that the authorities have cleared the air, it remains to be seen whether the delta variant goes away anytime soon.
Jen Psaki, Press Secretary, White House, said that driven by the delta variant, the cases in America are rising. This is particularly true for the unvaccinated people. She said that this trend is very likely to continue for the coming days. Authorities are also taking a look at its policies on mask wearing.
Already, the Department of Veterans Affairs has made it mandatory for its health care workers to get vaccinated. This is the first major federal agency to do so.
The delta variant is now a major concern in countries across the world, and US health officials are thinking of changing its policies on wearing masks in order to curb the spread. The variant was first detected in India where it caused numerous deaths, crippling the health care system of the country. There is now a 32 percent increase in hospitalisation in the US from the previous week.

Goldman Sachs draws a line in the sand on employee vaccination
New York (CNN) - All eyes are on Wall Street as the Covid-19 Delta variant continues to spread and Corporate America starts rolling out vaccination policies.
And although there's talk of banks requiring employees to show proof of vaccination, Goldman Sachs has drawn its line in the sand. The investment bank is barring employees from using their ID cards to enter the office building if they haven't submitted proof of their vaccination status, a spokesperson for the company told CNN Business.

Afghan Visa Applicants Arrive in U.S. After Years of Waiting
The first group of Afghan interpreters and others who helped Americans during the war will stay on an Army base in Virginia until they are resettled.
WASHINGTON — The first group of Afghans promised refuge by the Biden administration for helping the United States during the 20-year war in Afghanistan landed on American soil early Friday, starting a new life chapter after years of waiting.
About 250 Afghan interpreters, drivers and others who worked with the U.S. military, as well as their family members, arrived at Dulles International Airport outside Washington after traveling more than 30 hours from Kabul, the Afghan capital, officials said.
From Dulles, they were bused to Fort Lee, Va., south of Richmond, where they will stay at a hotel on the base for about a week to complete their processing before being resettled in the United States permanently, officials said.
The late-night arrival marked the vanguard of an initial group of about 2,500 Afghans being evacuated under threat of Taliban reprisals in an effort the White House calls Operation Allies Refuge. Groups of Afghans will arrive by plane roughly every three days and be transported to Fort Lee, said one American official briefed on the arrangements.

Malls Rise From the Grave in Select Cities
After visits plummeted during the height of the COVID-19 crisis, mall visitor numbers are now exceeding pre-pandemic levels, according to a new report.
While the coronavirus pandemic does not appear to be near its end with rising cases and lagging vaccinations, a report released Wednesday shows that shopping malls – which have struggled for years due to the rise in online retail – are seeing a resurgence, especially in some major cities as people itch to get out in public after nearly 18 months of restrictions.
The study from INRIX, a transportation data company, found that as of June, national mall visitor numbers exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 5%. This comes after visitation dropped by 91% in April 2020, the height of the pandemic.
In contrast, hardware stores – including box box retailers and small chain home improvement stores – got big increases in visitation during the pandemic, especially in April 2021 (37%) and July 2020 (36%), the report also found. But the extent to which malls were hit was surprising to Bob Pishue, a transportation analyst with INRIX.
"We look at cities, and a lot of cities saw like a 60% drop in traffic or something, which is unheard of," says Pishue. "And to see something drop more than that ... the Great Recession probably didn't even affect malls this much."
Analyzing more than 200 locations across five metropolitan areas, INRIX found that Chicago has seen the biggest recovery in mall visits, with an 18% increase in June compared to January 2020. Two other metro areas – Atlanta and Austin – saw similar spikes, while New York City returned to its baseline in June. Mall visits in Los Angeles are still down 8% compared to last year's baseline, which the report authors explain as possibly being due to the area's slower reopening process.
Pishue notes that the reason for the broader national spike in mall visits is likely due to possible "revenge spending" and "pent-up demand," similar to the countless weddings that are now being scheduled after they had to be postponed or cancelled last year. He adds via email that visitation will likely continue to fluctuate moving forward, noting that Los Angeles County imposed another mask mandate after the report was written.
"That being said, the overall takeaway is that people aren't avoiding in-person retail," Pishue says. "And it shows that despite all of the things going against malls and places like malls, that there's still quite a bit of demand for that type of shopping, and that experience as well."
It's no secret, however, that malls have struggled for years with the rise of Amazon and many other e-commerce platforms. On average, the U.S. shopping mall management industry declined 4.4% between 2016 and 2021, according to data from IBISWorld, a market research company.
But the recent surge in mall visits might not be only temporary as people break out of lockdown. INRIX notes in its report that retailers "have a positive outlook on the economy and their future," pointing to National Retail Foundation data which estimates that sales could grow between 10.5% and 13.5% this year due to "the combination of vaccine distribution, fiscal stimulus and private-sector ingenuity."
Pishue adds: "Malls aren't dead, and malls aren't dead especially in big cities."

Study: Online Prices See COVID-19 Spike, Reversing Multiyear Trend
For years, shopping online yielded price savings for consumers but that could be coming to an end.
Consumers spent $73.4 billion online in June, up 76.7% from pre-pandemic levels, according to study.
It may no longer pay to shop online, as a new study finds internet prices spiked since the coronavirus hit, reversing a five-year trend that saw prices fall each year.
The Adobe Digital Index for the month of June finds prices for 18 common online categories – from electronics to groceries – rose 2.3% year over year. Pre-pandemic, prices actually fell 5.2% in June 2019 from the prior year.
Over five years, e-commerce prices fell 3.9% on average each year.
Electronics, which have been a staple of online shopping and falling prices, did fall in June by 2.5%. But, they had been declining for five years at an average rate of 9.06%.
Apparel, meanwhile, rose 16.22% in June, compared to a five-year average annual decline of 1.08%. Groceries rose 0.47% in June, slightly less than their five-year annual average of 0.51%.
According to the government, overall consumer prices rose at an annual rate of 5.4% in June, the highest increase in 13 years.
The spike in online prices comes as e-commerce becomes a greater part of the consumer economy, accounting for about $1 of every $5 consumers spend, up from $1 of every $6 in 2017. Consumers spent $73.4 billion online in June, up 76.7% from pre-pandemic levels.
There is considerable debate about whether the current spike in inflation is temporary, the result of disruptions caused by the coronavirus, or reflective of a very strong economy and tight labor markets which mean it might persist.
Austan Goolsbee, a University of Chicago economics professor who chaired the Council of Economic Advisers under President Barack Obama, noted that what people bought online during the pandemic changed and it could be that these behavioral shifts continue into the future.
"The categories that people spent money on during the pandemic were really fundamentally different from what they were before the pandemic," said Goolsbee, who helped Adobe develop its index. "I think a lot of these changes are going to be permanent or at least partly permanent. Measuring the digital economy has gotten so much more important and is really vital for our measures of prices and the economy."
Only three categories saw prices fall year over year in June – office supplies, groceries and computers.
Looking at electronics, where online consumers have seen prices fall significantly over the years, Adobe Digital Insights Lead Analyst Vivek Pandya termed the price changes "striking, as consumers are accustomed to these goods being cheaper and better each year."
"The sustained and heightened (rise) in online grocery prices is also notable, as this category boomed during the pandemic and increased share of e-commerce baskets," he added.

US extends expiration dates on J&J Covid vaccine to 6 months
It’s the second time the FDA has extended the shelf life on the vaccines since June, when the agency said they could be used for up to 4 1/2 months
Federal health regulators on Wednesday again extended the expiration dates on Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine, providing health workers with six more weeks to use millions of doses of the shot.
The Food and Drug Administration said in a letter to J&J that the shots remain safe and effective for at least six months when properly stored and refrigerated. It’s the second time the FDA has extended the shelf life on the vaccines since June, when the agency said they could be used for up to 4 1/2 months. When first authorised in February, the FDA said the vaccines could be stored for three months at normal refrigeration levels.
Health authorities in many States had recently warned that they could be forced to throw out thousands of doses of the one-shot vaccine without an extension.
More time
The change gives health providers more time to use remaining shots sitting at pharmacies, hospitals and clinics. After plateauing earlier this summer, vaccination rates have begun climbing again as the contagious delta variant surges across many parts of the country.
Vaccine expiration dates are based on information from drugmakers on how long the shots stay at the right strength. J&J previously stated that it continues to conduct stability testing with the aim of further extending the shelf life of the shots.
The FDA has been reviewing expiration dates on all three US-authorised vaccines as companies have continued to test batches in the months since the shots first rolled out. Vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, authorised in December, have a six-month shelf life.
J&J’s vaccine was highly anticipated because of its one-and-done formulation and easy-to-ship refrigeration.
But rival drugmakers Pfizer and Moderna, which started shipping shots months earlier, have already supplied more than enough doses to vaccinate all eligible Americans. More than 150 million Americans have been fully vaccinated with the companies’ two-dose shots. By comparison, just 13 million Americans have been vaccinated with the J&J shot.
Use of J&J’s vaccine has been hurt by several rare potential side effects. Earlier this month, US health regulators added a new warning to the vaccine about links to a potentially dangerous neurological reaction called Guillain-Barré syndrome.
That followed a pause in the use of the shot in April after it was linked to a rare blood clot disorder. In both cases, government health advisers said the overall benefits of the shot still greatly outweigh the risks.

California sees small boost in vaccinations but needs much more
Visitors to the Grand Central Market in Los Angeles were mostly masked this week.(Brian van der Brug / Los Angeles Times)
With California’s summer coronavirus surge worsening, officials are unveiling new rules, redoubling efforts to get more people to wear masks and even employing some pointed remarks as part of an urgent campaign to boost vaccinations and slow the rapid spread of the highly infectious Delta variant.
The state Wednesday urged everyone — even those fully vaccinated against COVID-19 — to wear masks indoors while in public, joining a renewed national push to increase protection amid an ongoing spike in cases.
But the ultimate goal is to convince those who have not been vaccinated to get their shots, which experts say is vital to reverse the surge.
And there are some early signs of movement among Californians who, to this point, have remained on the fence.
From July 18 to 24, providers throughout the state administered an average of just more than 64,000 vaccines a day — about 3,100 more daily doses than the week before.
At first glance, a 5% increase doesn’t seem that significant. But officials say any uptick is welcome.
“Our sense of urgency to increase vaccination amongst residents remains very high, and we’re glad for any signs of increased vaccination uptake,” L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said.
